Greg2600
First off, always click on "How to Buy," because his price fluctuates with the USD/EUR conversion. For instance, the FZ-1 is now $155 not $165. I recently ordered one, here's what I did with help from Leo at Digital Press Video Games of Springfield, NJ! 1. Leo did a full cap replacement on the system as it was having issues, and that fixed them. 2. I decided to have him do the "240P" mod for clearer video (vs. native 480i), which was accomplished by soldering a few wires to the VDP video chip (ports 52/55) and a rocker switch that we installed on the side. We also had to remove resistor 166. 3. I decided NOT to cut a hole in the original CD drive bezel, as those are impossible to find. Instead, I installed the USB device as instructed for "internal" and then ran a USB 2.0 port extension cable (EBAY LINK) and installed that on the side as well. I didn't care about covering up VCD access as I'm never using that add-on. I kept the bezel in place with some clear tape. Thank you It's not my store, but he's got social media accounts, no web site. Leo owns the Springfield, NJ, location, not Clifton, FWIW. I'd suggest, if you're looking to mod something and cannot yourself (like me), to find perhaps a store in your area.

I finally got hold of them but they only accept local jobs.

Hastor
I really want this but have an FZ-10 - I could maybe pull it off but maybe screw up too. Does anyone offer any installation service for these, who has done it before, and anyone here has used? Mine's also in great shape and I have plenty of silver blanks and an old Plexwriter in good shape, so sticking with that may be easier. 3DO was recently recapped refurbished etc. and modded for 240p and RGB. Still wouldn't mind an ODE....
UHATEIT
I ended up doing a USB mod on one of my Goldstar units a few weeks ago. There was a guy I'd worked with for 3DO items and other console systems so I trusted him. He had bought a few of these USB things for the Goldstar from the Russian site and had a spare left already, so I was able to buy it from him and he loaded up a 128GB flashdrive with 165 games or so on it. There were a few missing so I added the extra games I had to the drive myself. This was a very simple install which is great since I have NO soldering experience at all. Literally take the cover off and then remove the disc drive from the console. Then plug the white thin cable into the spot where the CD drive cable comes out of and then you mount the little flash board in there. The Board has 4 holes and 4 feet that raise it up from the metal shield below it, however if you mount it to the front holes the USB stick would come out of the unit and it looks ugly as there would be no front door. So I only mounted 2 of the screws/feet and its honestly sturdy enough to not need all 4 and put them into the further back holes so that the USB drive can stay tucked inside the console. For the clean look, you take the Goldstar door off the CD drive its clipped in with 4 tabs, then I used transparent clear tape on the back and taped it into place as best as I could to look flush. I put a picture of the finished product as it sits on the shelf, looks like a regular Goldstar still! I have a few pics added so you can see it from a few angles. This is a very nice and easy install!
teuton17
I know that this is an old thread, but I just updated my Mnemo USB drive for my 3DO and am selling them now on Amazon. It is a 256GB USB drive with all the conversions I have been able to do for Japan, Europe, USA, World, Homebrew, Magazine discs, Sampler discs and 171 game user manuals. just under 500 games or disc images in total.
