Pole Position Port , please save this game

Recommended Posts

Today I stumbled at a pole position gameplay video , where I left a comment against a ridiculous observation that VCS 2600 was faster than intellivision so that's why the VCS pole position was better and Intv was not good for this kind of game (race). Anyway pole position here really sucks and seeing other ports I know Intv can do better. In fact by just playing Auto racing it's obvious enough that it can be better. I know Carl it's very good to fix these things and maybe with some luck, and our insistence, he can put a mod for PP in his queue. What do you think Carl ? rgds..

The Atari VCS could be faster than the Intellivision. It's a tough question to answer. The processors are different and clock speed is never a good way to compare different processors. The Intellivision does have a graphics processor to relieve the cpu of stuff the Atari 2600 cpu has to do. This also makes the Atari 2600 more flexible for different types of graphics, but very difficult to program. The Intellivision graphics system is tile based and somewhat limited.

Edit: Atari did program Pole Position for Intellivision back in 1983. It's too bad that one never saw the light of day. I believe it was the same programmer that did World Series for the ECS.

I'd rather see someone make a sequel to it. Pole Position II: Indianapolis

Base the game on the 500. If possible, program the car to fall off some after enough laps and have a pit lane available to regain time. Maybe even have cars with different attributes the way Boxing does for fighters.

That's a cool idea. It would be a lot like Pit Stop from Epyx:

Had this on my Colecovision and it worked with the Turbo driving controller. Also had it on my Atari 8-bit computer.
