yanbu
I just received a boxed copy of 01 combat this morning, there was a magazine ad folded up inside that made me smile. Just thought I'd share, looks like they had their games picked out and circled there, and a phone number hand written at the bottom (I haven't tried calling it )
kennetzel
I enjoy looking at old magazine ads of my favorite toys. I also collect toy robots, the Remco Lost in Space Robot the main piece of my collection. I have a bunch of catalog pages I found on the web of him being advertised.

Jason_Atari
I wonder why casino was more expensive than the other games advertised, i can understand indy 500 being so because of the bundled driving controllers.
Flojomojo
I wonder why casino was more expensive than the other games advertised, i can understand indy 500 being so because of the bundled driving controllers.Maybe it was pitched as being more "adult" (or at least more complex) than the other games to justify asking a few bucks more? Fun find. I like seeing the choices someone circled. Not the choices I would have gone with, but I don't think I was aware of the VCS until Space Invaders came out. edladdin
So tempting to call the number: "Sorry for the delay! Your order is now ready for shipping." :-)
Flojomojo
By the way, that "magazine ad" is almost certainly a page torn from a mail-order catalogue. I would guess Sears, but they used the "Tele-Games" branding at the time. Maybe Montgomery Wards or JC Penney? The ragged right edge would suggest its from one of the seasonal supplements, rather than the giant square-cut "Wish Book" from the holiday season. Any other guesses/knowledge?

I was wondering this same thing. On the flip side there's an ad for some silverware, but I couldn't seem to find any indication of which catalog or department store this might have been. The bottom left has a *TRADEMARK on both front and back, I'm guessing that's just to cover any trademark symbols? I should probably peruse some Penney's or Wards catalogs online from that general year.
yanbu
Area code 815 is Illinois, might be some kind of clue anyways.

That's what I was doing, very casually in Flickr, when I stumbled upon these groovy homemade "action figures" featuring Atari and Activision characters.
Flojomojo
Area code 815 is Illinois, might be some kind of clue anyways. Yeah, looks to be an individual's phone number. I wouldn't bother them.
yanbu
Yeah, looks to be an individual's phone number. I wouldn't bother them. Oh definitely wouldn't, I was just thinking of the area code to try to get an idea of which state it was in. Not sure if there were Illinois specific retailers in the 80's possibly... pacman000
Montgomery Wards was based in Chicago, Illinois: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montgomery_Ward
up2knowgood
It has a J next to the page number, Anyone know of the significance of that? Maybe it was part of a circular with multiple stores advertising, like Green Tab. I'd love to see the other side just out of curiosity. up2knowgood
Thanks Yanbu! That side really looks like a mail circular, and I would lean Montgomery Ward after seeing it, they seemed to have nicer things like silver plate than Penny's.
