trajectory
Hi everyone! I recently took all of my childhood video games out of storage (where they had sat for 12 years) and I am thrilled to find that my Jaguar and Jaguar CD both still work! Almost all of my games were still in storage, too, but I've been adding a few that I didn't have, including BattleSphere Gold. I took a chance on an eBay auction since there is a return policy for fraud. The listing seemed legit, and the product I received seems very high quality, but there are a couple of things that make me think it might be a repro. I've included pictures of everything. 1. The box opens backwards (compared to other Jaguar boxes). 2. The label on the cart comes up around all the edges. 3. The "Gold" label is printed on the box (I always assumed it was a sticker, so maybe I'm in the wrong here). 4. Although the box claims a JUGS demo CD would be inside, it was not included in what otherwise appeared to be a brand new product. As you can see, the presentation is fantastic (including the full-color game manual), which is the only reason I question its validity. If it is a fake, they spent a lot of time making it look beautiful. What do the experts here say? Do I send it back for a refund, or is this the actual product? Thank you so much for your help, whether it's good news or bad news.
neo_rg
That's not 100% original I'm afraid. The gold sticker was stuck on the outer wrapper and not the box. Edited June 24, 2018 by neo_rg
trajectory
Thank you - despite looking great, there were enough small things that made me suspicious. I'll get the refund! Thanks again!
racerx
Battlesphere Gold is a clear cartridge.
neo_rg
If it came from Spain and cost about 165 pounds it's a fake.
Albert
Yeah, that's a fake. The original boxes did have a gold seal on the outside, the game cartridge used a clear shell, and the box does not open backwards (what a sloppy mistake on the part of the bootleggers). That's also a poor, hand-cut label. Even the manual was poorly cut/folded (you can see graphics from the back wrapped around to the left, front edge). So, I wouldn't exactly call the presentation "fantastic". ..Al
Albert
Battlesphere Gold is a clear cartridge. Notice it's a die-cut label with only the top two corners rounded, versus the reproduction label that has all four corners poorly cut. And the colors are much more saturated on the original label. ..Al
Albert
Also, someone game me a link to the auction.. Here's the box insert: This is not a Jaguar box insert. Looks more like an SNES box insert (the game boxes are the same size as the Jaguar's boxes). The opening for the cartridge is much larger than the cartridge, which would allow the cartridge to rattle around inside the box, kind of defeating the purpose of having a box insert. ..Al
Otto1980
The game works?
+madman
Generally speaking if you see a rare game for sale at low cost and it's from Spain, Italy or France--beware. Especially when they have multiple copies.
Flojomojo
Is it still forbidden to talk about making more Battlesphere cartridges? Artificial scarcity provides the motivation for people to do things like this. Artificial scarcity sucks.

UHATEIT
If it works and looks nice and you got it for cheap, then play on! The Battlesphere ROM posted out there on a bunch of sites doesn't work on a skunkboard and I sure as heck wasn't going to shell out the $$$ for a real one so a repro is likely the way to go on this one. I am glad I was able to get it for cheap since I wasn't able to totally get into the game all that much, so it wasn't a huge loss for me.
+madman
If it works and looks nice and you got it for cheap, then play on! Not sure I'd consider $200+ for a bootleg as "cheap" personally.
UHATEIT
Not sure I'd consider $200+ for a bootleg as "cheap" personally. Oh wow I didn't know he paid that much. Id say $50 for a repro with a nice label and a cardboard box and insert would be good

stdjxf15
https://www.ebay.com/i/253748456959 ? I really dont mind reproductions, but this price is ridiculous. At least they titled it correctly. Edited July 14, 2018 by stdjxf15
Stage_1_Boss
I mean, I've paid some prices for Jaguar stuff but I can't bite on Battlesphere. All that comes to mind is.. "Well, if I'm dropping this cash on a game.. would I want Battlesphere or a Neo Geo AES title.."
stdjxf15
I bit the bullet in 08 for around 200.00. Thats before I had a family? Edited July 14, 2018 by stdjxf15
Stage_1_Boss
Yeah, now it's around a grand and a collector's piece. Except, there's a bunch of other collector items around that price that just feel a lot more exciting.

gozar
That's not 100% original I'm afraid. The gold sticker was stuck on the outer wrapper and not the box. On mine, it's a gold sticker stuck directly on the box. Also, my manual is black and white, not color.
dsullo
I know this is an old topic but I wanted to revisit it. At one time I owned a battlesphere gold and like many things in my collection , I sold it. I don’t think I even owned a jag at the time. Now I have a jag and gamedrive so I can play the rom. This might be frowned upon but I have been trying to piece together a complete battlesphere gold. After selling mine I did buy just a game cart : maybe on Etsy , I really do not remember. It was several years ago. I now have secured the overlay, manual , manual adendumn and inner tray. I am waiting on the reproduction box to come in the mail. It will make me feel a little better having it on my shelf and even though it’s a reproduction of an unreleased game, it still plays and will look almost like the original.
