+karri
that looks very impressive for a teaser! I was actually thinking of working on something similar after I discovered your latest template in the programming forum. Thanks. I hope I get all pieces done in time. The idea in the racing game is a bit like "frogger meets Road Riot". You swap lanes to go faster or slower. Every lane has a fixed speed. If you get a black car behind you it will shoot you. If you get behind a black car you can shoot it. This is phase 1 of the game in which you collect ammo and equipment while getting experience for phase 2. gambler172
I just got invited via Facebook to the event in Korchenbroich, Germany. But I wonder if there is place for Lynxers on the event? Hi Karri i am not a Jaguar friend, but if Lynxers are welcome,maybe.....
+karri
Hi Karri i am not a Jaguar friend, but if Lynxers are welcome,maybe..... I hope we are welcome. If not, we can always get a few chairs and throw our own party Teasers to continue. The entrance to the Casino. Beware of the bouncer... And don't worry about the size. Due to the strict budget we had to use just a small load of bricks on the outside. It is bigger on the inside. With much glitter and gold around. Later at night... +karri
All the teaser screenshots of your car game look really good and fun, very exciting! Thanks! The Casino is much larger as seen by looking around: The girl is still just a shadow. I hope to fill in more details in the characters. What is special is that you have real-time 360 degree rotation in the shooting part. Villains approch running from corridors and your mission is to protect the girl. The crosshair of your gun is actually a XOR sprite. One of the Lynx specialities. It will modify the colours to lighten them up. This is part 2 of the action. Use single target dps, area of damage to villains and receive healing from the girl. Edited August 22, 2018 by karri

+karri
Opinions? When the night falls I planned to have some loot from the car chase that would be useful - a night sight! The question is: how dark should the interior be at night? Pitch black so that you can only see with the night sight? Or should I leave a little to be seen? The original Lynx screen vs McWill makes a big difference here too. What do you think?
Ninjabba
Pitch black would be cool to handle the flashlight as an extra game mechanic such that you cannot see the silhouette, but since I don't know what you're planning exactly I would watch out with this kind of mechanic. The worst things about games are unfair mechanics. If night time is 10x more difficult than day time it could break some of the fun. The screenshots so far look great though and the contrast between day and night looks convincing.

I could create a fairly convincing yellowish flashlight cone that illuminates the targets without turning them red. A secret agent could always have access to a flashlight. This would still be a possible scenario for fighting enemies but more difficult than the green night sight that turns the enemies red. (Or reddish...) I plan to add clothes and equip the enemies by leaving enough grayish pixels that turn red when the XOR sprite passes the character. I am getting a bit concerned about play time. The original idea was to let the bomb detonate after 10 minutes. But perhaps it would be better to leave the bomb ticking forever until you are ready to dismantle it. In this case the timer would be ticking upwards instead of down. Or would it be better to have a few alternatives like 10 minutes and 20 minutes? For testing I could implement the up-ticking mechanism to see how long it takes for testers to solve the mission.

Better than pitch black, where you have to scan the whole area. Sounds like a valid point. What about a GPS gadget to keep track of where you have been. Like this: This part is present all the time. But it is really intended for phase 3 where you try to locate the bomb. The idea is that you can program your vehicle to go to the point of interest directly instead of running for ages around the town. +karri
First playtesting suggestions: The car chase is for buying more play time. In the hard mode you only get a minute to solve the game. By shooting black cars you earn more time to solve the game. The GPS gadget is a route planner. The car will follow the route you draw. If there is no route the car will zig-zag around the city visiting all locations. The scanner has been replaced by binoculars that can be used when you run beside the road. +karri
Just a small note about Shaken, not stirred at eJagfest. There will be a real bamboo cart of both days to win! The game turned out to have 3 modes: Easy, Medium, Hard. The Easy mode has no time limit. The bomb will not explode (unless you mess up the disarm sequence). Good mode for practice. The Medium mode has a 10 minute time limit to disarm the bomb. An entertaining mode with cozy driving around and puzzle solving. The Hard mode has a shorter time limit to disarm the bomb, perhaps 1 minute, but you need to buy more time by getting the bad guys in the car chase. For hard-core agents enjoying a challenge. In order to participate in the competition for the cart you need to solve the game in Hard mode. But in order to have a chance to do this I may release the full game on AtariAge when it is completed so that you can practice to become a skilled secret agent. The deadlines for solving the game is. 3rd of November at 18:00 CET and 4th of November at 18:00 CET. For those who participate remotely to the event you need to post a screenshot of your best time as proof. At eJagfest you just show me the end time. As the game does not use any eeprom it will also work perfectly on the SD card. So everybody can participate in the competition to get an unique, bamboo Shaken, not stirred cart for your beloved Lynx. There will also be two carts at the eJagfest tombola. If I have time you may also get real copies of the game at eJagfest. Small side note: the game is already over 200k. It may even need 512k when everything is implemented. +karri
Here is a small clip of the chase. The blue cars are civilians. You can use them as shields. The grey cars are the bad guys. They shoot you from behind and you lose time. Taking the bad guys out buys you time.
+karri
I just completed the route planner. Here you can plot where you want to go and then just drive there. This speeds up the game a lot as you can plan your moves around the town.

+karri
Thanks for the thumbs up. Now when I have changed a lot of the game mechanics balancing the game has to start again from scratch. I just hope I don't make the game too easy. I am also tempted to re-write the night graphics in neon colour style. Turbo Laser Lynx has some absolutely wonderful colour schemes that I would like to re-create for night driving. The entire game is now playable. But far too easy. I really need to give more fire power to the bad guys.
enthusi
Be careful though. If the coder sets the difficulty level, it is almost always too high

Thanks! I've been trying to think how to recreate neon on the Lynx, usually you need white in the middle, then a light color on both sides of the white and then a dark version of that color on the outsides of that to create a neon effect, but five pixels wide lines on the small Lynx resolution is obviously not going to work out. Probably would need to just to go with bright colors on dark background. Edited September 17, 2018 by Turbo Laser Lynx
