MrBeefy
So going to make this as short as possible. Had clogged drain, little water overflowed went into the basement where I have my videogames set up. My intellivision had some (not a ton) of water in it. No idea if it still works. How durable are these typically? At least the board was raised up so it wasn't like the circuit board was sitting in the water. Kind of glad I haven't bought many games or an LTO yet.
Keatah
A good washing, rinse and dry out won’t hurt it.
+JasonlikesINTV
Definitely let it dry for a long time before powering on, but might be fine.
+nanochess
Ouch! As Keatah said. I hope you didn't lost too much things.
JohnPCAE
My Sears unit came from someone who said it didn't work. After taking it apart, it looked like someone had spilled coffee on it. After some thorough cleaning, it was working just fine. As long as nothing got fried, you should be able to revive it.

One of the problems with Intellivisions is getting the rf shield off just to get at the main board.
carlsson
On the PC side and newer consoles, it is said to run the motherboard in the dishwasher, no detergent. The cycle will wash it and dry it.
Keatah
Generally yes. there are some parts you want to protect like DIP switches, cmos batteries, inductor cans. Things that can trap and hold water. It's a good thing to blast the freshly washed(wet) board with air and remove any possibility of the water leaving minerals behind. And especially blasting under 500-pin BGA chips. That's a must. I just strap it to the hood of my pickup and drive down the highway.
MrBeefy
Well i dont think there was much. I did need to wash the moth out anyways lol. Besides the Intv my ps1 might be the only other system in danger of not working. It will be awhile before i power either on. I will probably have a time putting the intv back together. Oh, yes. I used normal isopropyl alcohol to clean the board. As for the RF shield, a couple minutes with a soldering iron is all it takes to remove it. Is it okay to leave it off?
JohnPCAE
I always replace the RF shield. I don't know if it's necessary, though.
Place Logo Here
Uflgh. I am extremely sorry to hear about this and can sympathize. I lost all of my home systems (Odyssey 2, Atari 5200, Atari 130 xe) when my basement flooded about 17 years ago. Good luck trying to dry everything out. Has to be worth a shot. +stupus
If it wasn't plugged in I bet it's fine. Open it, clean it, let it sit in front of a fan a few days. Good luck

Good luck Well i never leave my old tv and game systems plugged in. So there wasn't any type of power going to any of them. I think I will try to put back together this weekend and give it a shot. Told the wife if the Intv goes I'm definitely going to get the new one if it comes out lol. While I wish I had more games I will be sad to not be able to play AD&D. +fdr4prez
Just tell your wife that if it doesn't work, then she needs to play AD&D with you the proper way...using pen'n'paper! Oh, and dice. Lots and lots of dice Edited August 17, 2018 by fdr4prez
IMBerzerk
Take an old sock, fill it with rice. Open the case up and put the sock in it. Put it on a table with a fan blowing on it. Will try it good. As already mentioned, as long as it wasn't plugged in, or has been unplugged long enough to drain the capacitors on the power board... you're most likely fine. I've cleaned my share of these things as many others have and in doing so, have been shocked at the amount of crap and water stains I've seen in working units. Keep us posted If it is dead... I have a spare board I can sell you cheap. I was holding it for eBay... but Inty members come first. JR
AMenard
I gave some thought to immersion in alcohol, to displace the water, and letting it dry in the sun for a day for some of my worst board cleaning job...
+JasonlikesINTV
My two cents. Water will eventually dry in a relatively dry room especially with desiccant (rice, among other options). I'd avoid submersion in any solvent unless necessary...especially isopropyl alcohol, which is typically 9-30% water anyway.
Rik
I use 99% Isopropyl alcohol for cleaning my consoles. That's better than the common 70%, the less water content the better
MrBeefy
Sad day is now happy day. I probably did thread the wires right but its working. Now to try the ps1.
