Drummerboy
Hello, I have understood the Atari 5200 its basically the an Atari 8Bit computer just without keyboard, different joysticks and "skin". So, the Atari 5200 have an Atari 2600 cartridge adapter, to play 2600 game on the Atari 5200 game console. Then if is this possible in the 5200, why its no possible load Atari 2600 roms from any device like Sio2SD on the Atari 8bit computers line?. if any Atari 8Bit computer it is technically the same as an Atari 5200. Just wondered about. Thanks, Regards!
Zonie
The 2600 adapter is really just a complete 2600 that gets its power from, and feeds its audio and video through the 5200. Same as the Atari adapter for the Colecovision. That is why it has the joystick ports and the select and reset buttons on it. It is missing the Color/BW switch so games that use it like Starmaster won't play right. Edited August 26, 2018 by Zonie

The systems are too different from each other. One has a TIA, the other does not. One has a GTIA/ANTIC/POKEY chipset, the other does not. The 5200 isn't exactly the same as all the 8-bit computers, but it shares enough common architecture. And that makes porting games over really easy. Going from 2600 to 5200 demands a labor intensive re-write.

Say no more. Explained!
