Legit S-Video Cables for SNES/N64/Gamecube?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a legitimate set of S-Video cables that will work on the SNES, N64 and GC. From the reviews I am reading on various sites some cheaper S-Video cables are actually just a passthrough for a composite signal. No! What is the point of that. Below are a set that I found on Amazon and appear to be pretty cheap and actually put out an S-Video signal. Can anyone confirm that based on the listing? If not is there another set somewhere you can confirm are legitimate S-Video signal cables in the Nintendo output style?

My application is for an SNES mini and N64 being hooked up to my CRT with S-Video inputs. I have found S-Video looks great and is the best way to get a decent picture out of your system without resorting to mods (which I often do anyway, lol)

A year or so ago I just paid the high price for the Japanese one. It works good like you would expect. Now I use it for the GC on a CRT because I dont want to pay the crazy price for the component cable.

Do you mean and SNESjr? Cause that doesn't output s-video unless you add in the missing components back in to do s-video. As for the cables, I don't actually know where it is pulling the signal from, but I ordered one of these from console5.com and it looked much MUCH better than the composite cables I was using previously. Cheap cost too...

It is using the Tomee brand but again, it looked way better than the standard composite video cable that it originally came with looked.

I do and can confirm however that the Tomee brand s-video Dreamcast cable is using the composite video for the chroma and I had to take the connector apart to fix that issue. But yeah...on the SNES side I didn't have an issues.

If you can track one down I recommend the Monster Cable set. They are clearly the better built of all of the Nintendo S-Video cables and gives the best picture.

Might be worth it to track down an OEM or Monster cable.

Man there are so many cheap shit cables being made these days....frustrating

Damn---! $75 bucks for the cheapest Monster SNES/N64/GC cable on ebay:

The Nintendo tax strikes again...

Original xbox monster cables are about $5 bucks....lol

Seems like the OEM cable from Japan is the best option for the money at around $30

I found mine probably 8 years ago at a GameStop, for maybe $12. Brand new. S-Video/AV cable for PlayStation, PS2, GameCube, N64, and Super Nintendo.

I don't remember the brand name.

*Edit - It seems to be of good quality and I've not had any issues with it.
