Ramses
Surprised to see Calipso. I wouldn't have guessed that one. I'm kinda dreading it too as I've always had trouble with it - hopefully everyone else does as well!

AtariWarlord
Calipso 6,842. I like the fact that once you finally kill the fish, they're all gone for the rest of the level. youxia
Calipso - 21,485 R-Type - 185,200 Calipso is fun, but has anybody managed to get past stage 2 in one go? It's ridiculous, I always run out of O2 . I played R-Type first on ZX Spectrum, it was a revelation. An accessible and gorgeous shoot'em up. I think I got quite far then. The port was astonishingly good, given it was only 48Kb. Then I have played it on Amiga I thing, later on the strategy (no, really) version on PSP and recently number 2 & Leo (gfx is simply amazing in these sequels) - but I don't think I've ever played the original arcade version before this HSC round. The scores are grouped tight. Can we bring down this damn spaceship or what?
Ramses
I used to play the SMS version of R-Type quite a bit growing up. The battle cruiser seems to be a lot tougher in the arcade version. I think have passed level 2 in Calipso without dying a couple of times. You have to get lucky with the enemy groupings though. However, I don't think I ever did level 3 in one go. Edited November 23, 2018 by Ramses

youxia
R-Type 228,000 Calipso 33,750 The Bydo cruiser is actually not that hard, once you figure out that all it takes to bring it down is one charge shot at that engine room thingy. The level after that is where true chaos reigns and you really need to be on your toes to survive more than a few seconds.

AtariWarlord
R-Type 39,700. Yes it's only a couple hundred points above my previous score -- live with it . I'm certain all scoring stops just in that region before you get to the first boss. R-Type 67,900. Calipso 14,210.
