Cobra Kai
Let me preface this post: -Yes, this is a wishlist. -No, I am not a programmer, thus I have no ability to 'do it myself'. I was thinking about this series of games recently, as many of you know they were old light gun arcade games, very uniquely designed. Crossbow made it's way to the Atari 2600 and 7800, but the subsequent games never had ports that I know of on anything. Seeing how the 2600 could handle Crossbow, it should be possible on the 5200 correct? Now, wouldn't these games just rock with Trak-Ball support as well? Is it something an ambitious coder could do or what? I'm just daydreaming, but it just seems like such a natural fit with an analog Trak-Ball and the power of the 5200. These are times when I wish I had learned the craft of game coding, but alas I have to just toss idea bombs instead.
edladdin
Sign me up for a good Trak-Ball port of Cheyenne! That was an all-time arcade favorite for me in the Golden Age.
Atari_Bill
Love Cheyenne! One of my all time favorites even though I was not good at it. I never played Combat, but really enjoyed Cheyenne and Crossbow.
bohoki
i would love to see an analog absolute positioning crossbow game i play it on the commodore 64 and waiting for the crosshairs to move is a bit annoying
Shawn
Wasn't Combat already done? I could have sworn it was programmed and released like 10 years ago.

These are times when I wish I had learned the craft of game coding, but alas I have to just toss idea bombs instead. I am a big fan of Crossbow and I've said plenty of times I'd love to have a Trak-Ball version of it, either on the 5200, the 7800, or both. With that said, the 5200 is missing the light pen/light gun hardware of A8 inside of it. So to support a light gun version, there would have to be a hardware mod to the console. Since that's most likely a no-go, the best option would be to port the XE Game System/A8 version to the 5200 and throw in analog support including Trak-Ball support. Unlike the 7800 version, the XE Game System version didn't have a joystick only option for play. Nir Dary has said a few times that most XE Game System titles didn't really require its stock 64K RAM and that most of the titles can be patched to run on a standard 16K 600XL. Thus in theory, probably with a lot of work, they could be ported to the 5200.
killersquirel
Wasn't Combat already done? I could have sworn it was programmed and released like 10 years ago. Not the Exidy arcade shooter Combat. There was a home-brew sequel to the atari 2600 comet made for the 5200 in the early 2000s.

I didn't even think about the Exidy arcade one. I was thinking the Atari tank game as you figured I was. Thanks.
