Krull

In my latest episode I discuss the game Krull for the 2600 and the arcade version. This is the first in a series of episodes where I discuss game adaptions of movies. Funny, when I was a kid I loved this movie. I tried to watch it again about a month ago, and, well...let's just say it didn't hold up well. Thinking back, I always enjoyed the game more than the movie. Am I alone in this? Can you guys think of other examples of games that were better than the movies they came from? How about when the soundtrack album is more enjoyable and memorable than the movie?

The movie is still one of my favorites. In fact it has been too long since I last watched it, might have to rectify that over the Christmas break. Love the James Horner score.

The game is pretty good too, but I never had it as a kid and have not spent a whole lot of time with it. Never played the arcade.

I just played the arcade game for the first time recently. It was at a local arcade when I was a kid but it was always broke down.

Both the movie and the game are more fun than people give them credit for. The movie's entertaining in that over the top 80s kinda way, even if character development is almost non existent. I'd put it in the same category with other 80s cheesefests that people still love like Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China: it's bad, but it's the really FUN kinda bad. The Horner score helps a lot.

The game is actually quite fun too. Both the home version and the arcade. It's a lot like Megaforce that way: it was a port of a movie that everyone expected to be a Big Thing... that completely flopped. In both cases, the games are better than the source material.

i can never pass the weird web stage ten seconds into the game. the 1st part where youre swordfighting is pretty cool though. do you guys know he secret to get out of the web?

You could change to a different level and the web stands still like I used in the video. Another way is that I just keep moving towards the door and keep jumping. Don't stop moving and jumping until you get there. Getting out is pretty easy.
