ubersaurus
I picked up a 48k Spectrum (board 3b) a few months ago while vacationing in the UK, and have been trying to get it up to snuff. So far it's been recapped, a new voltage regulator has been installed, and a new keyboard membrane attached. But now I've got another problem: upper RAM failure. Using this program, it's indicating the problem RAM is IC17: https://github.com/brendanalford/zx-diagnostics/wiki/Tape-Tests I ordered a 4164, since they are supposed to be drop-in replacements, but even after installation it's still giving the error. The leads to the IC are all good, so unless the 4164 chip is also bad, I'm not sure what the problem could be. Does anyone have any advice on what to check other than that? Should I just try a different RAM chip? I have some spares on the way in the mail (since the first 4164 I ordered took so long I was convinced it was lost in the mail). ubersaurus
Turns out actually the lines to two other RAM ICs were bad - patched them with wire and now they work. Never mind!
