digdugnate
*raises hand sheepishly* NES: Final Fantasy 148 minutes Finally made time for the 9th session of our Final Fantasy quest. We hadn't played since mid March so it took a little while just to recall where we were and what we needed to do. The whole party died a couple of times after running into a pack of 4 ankylos. Most of the non-wasted time was a grind through the desert fighting, gaining experience and leveling up. We do think we're ready to go back and hopefully finish it up in Session 10 this coming weekend. TI-99/4A Dragon's Lair - 30 minutes The Attack - 30 minutes - interesting game. I don't really know if I like it or not but I guess it was captivating enough for me to play for 30 minutes TI Invaders - 8 minutes Football - 4 minutes (yawn) Hopper - 8 minutes Moon Mine - 12 minutes Super Demon Attack - 11 minutes (I still like the 2600 version best) Video Games 1 - 20 minutes (I found the pinball game strangely addicting) i feel you, lol- TI 99 4A Football was super disappointing BITD.
+cvga
i feel you, lol- TI 99 4A Football was super disappointing BITD. I am planning on giving it another shot at some time in the future. I bought a bunch of TI-99 games and had a great time just plugging them in and trying them. I didn't realize that it was going to be more of a simulation. I need to read the instructions and give it another spin.

carlsson
Atari 8-bit: Deflektor - 29 min. The past weekend I went on a retro computing hack, but I had other errands to undertake first so I missed half the hack. Alas I put all the time into development and no additional game play.
Kurt_Woloch
Here are my times for this past week (May 6th through 12th) on classic systems... Arcade: Burger Time - 12 min. Jr. Pac-Man - 135 min. in 5 sessions. Ms. Pac-Man - 18 min. Puzzle Bobble - 17 min. Atari 7800: Pac-320 Pokey - 12 min. Channel F: Pac-Man - 14 min. This week started out by considering which games might be feasible for the Gigatron systems. I found that Puzzle Bobble should be possible, and it has actually got surprisingly few demakes... nobody attempted to port it to the Channel F or to the Atari 2600 or 7800. I played that one in its original form for a bit after also reading about the Neo Geo hardware it was using. Also possible should be Pac-Man, but the sprites would have to be scaled down due to the low resolution. To that end, I played some Pac-Man variations, starting with that of the Channel F, then going to Ms. Pac-Man and Jr. Pac-Man both in its original form and finally the homebrew Pac-320 Pokey on the Atari 7800 (don't know if that's its exact name though). Here, back in 2011, Bob hacked Ms. Pac-Man into Pac-Man (or, rather, Hangly Man? The maze is a bit strange) in high resolution. Somehow I like Jr. Pac-Man because of its wide mazes. I also played Burger Time since that's another game I consider possible on the Gigatron. Edited May 12, 2019 by Kurt_Woloch

Yeah, I had never heard of Granny and the Gators before that place publicized it on their website. It was fun and a lot less reliant on good pinball play than Baby Pac Man.

Eltigro
Classic times this week... Jaguar Raiden - 17 min (Just a few minutes on some Raiden. Watched a video on YT that went through the series and spinoffs... but didn't have all the different versions. Seemed to mostly go through the arcade versions, but also had at least one PC version... and also had Raiden IV and V in there, but I wasn't sure if they were arcade or what. I know it did not have any of the older console versions... so no Jag, no TG, no Playstation... So I went ahead and played a little. My trigger thumb has gotten rusty, though. I got pretty good when we did this on the Jaguar HSC, but I haven't really played it since.) TurboGrafx Bonk's Adventure - 96 min (Was looking at scores for this game on another forum and thought I'd give it a go. I died on the final boss and about 2000 points below the target score. I don't know if the final boss gives points or not, but I didn't get to see. I was trying to go through and find and do as many of the bonus rooms as I could and actually play through the stages, killing enemies and scoring points instead of just turning on the turbofire for the head bonk and flying over most of some of the stages. Which is probably why I had fewer lives to spend on fighting King Drool.) Raiden - 10 min (See above, really. This one has always been harder than the Jag version. I liken it to the second loop on the Jag version as far as speed and such goes. It has the advantage of having turbo fire, though, and if it were the same as the Jag version with turbo fire, it'd be too easy... at least that first loop would be.) Genesis Crusader of Centy - 166 min (Saw a snippet of this on a YT video and thought, "Hey, I think I downloaded that game..." Sure enough, there it is. I kinda got sucked in and have had a good bit of fun playing it. Don't know if I'll finish it or not, but I played it for longer than I figured I would. It reminds me a lot of Alundra for the Playstation.) Saturn Panzer Dragoon - 55 min (If you didn't know, May 11th was the 24th anniversary of the Saturn's launch in North America. I played some Panzer Dragoon on Saturnday morning to celebrate. I played at first just normally, and died on the second boss. I've never been that good at this game. But hey, that's one reason why I got a Pro Action Replay + card! Played again with cheats on (infinite energy) and beat it. I don't consider it a true beating, because of the cheating, of course, but I like to do it sometimes just to see the game and watch the ending.) One thing I noticed typing this up... I realised that I rarely seem to have Nintendo games on here. It's usually TurboGrafx or some Sega console. I didn't own any Sega systems when they were new, so maybe that's the draw there. And I've had my Turbo since it was new and have always had a fondness for it, so there's that. But I wonder why I don't play as much of the Nintendo systems. I mean, I do on occasion, but it's not nearly as much as the others. Dunno... just a thought... anyone else ever come to some revelation about their gaming habits from the "What Have You Actually Played" tracker?

+thegoldenband
^It definitely looks like Week 19 has the lowest average gameplay time of the first 19: Average times, 2014-2019, by week (rounded to the nearest digit): Week 1: 4641 Week 2: 4987 Week 3: 5753 Week 4: 5309 Week 5: 4169 Week 6: 5085 Week 7: 4254 Week 8: 4038 Week 9: 4018 Week 10: 4217 Week 11: 4730 Week 12: 4191 Week 13: 4093 Week 14: 4754 Week 15: 4644 Week 16: 4418 Week 17: 4222 Week 18: 4187 Week 19: 3685 Interesting that Week 3 is so high. People trying to get their gameplay time in before school starts back up? Or is it folks who are done recovering from the holidays and are now settling back into their daily life? Or a sample size too small for any of these generalizations?
carlsson
Oh yes, I forgot to include the average. For the coming seven weeks, we've been around 3300 - 4400 minutes per week on average in the last five years, then a sudden jump in week 27 (July 1-7) up to 5400 minutes followed by another five weeks above 5000 minutes before the summer vacations are over and we return to slightly lower amounts again until the Christmas season.
