electrohaze
Greetings Atari 8-bit fans. I had my Atari 130XE upgraded to stereo sound (duel Pokeys). I am very pleased with the sound, but I am having trouble locating much software that supports it. Especially software that will run on my NTSC machine. Perhaps there are a lot of homebrew releases that support stereo sound, but I have found it's hard to find what does. Has anyone made a list? If there isn't one, Let's get one going in this thread. Stereo Pokey just sounds great to my ears! Stereo games tested with success on my NSTC 130XE so far are: Yoomp! (2007) Space Harrier (2018) Train (BAHA soft 2018) Games that I think support stereo but I can't get working are... Laura (2016) Stunt Car Racer (2018) I am sure there is a lot more out there..... Magic Knight
Bobby Bearing Draconus Jim Slide Laura (2017) Megablast Pang Quarrion Zybex ...to be cont'd... Are these special modded versions or do the original Cas or ATR versions just play out the channels accordingly? Zybex and Draconus are late 80's games, so just wondering.... Fred_M
You have to look for the disk versions of Zybex and Draconus by A.N.G. Software (also sold by MD software UK). Those versions support stereo. They are both in the torrent made by the Atari Preservation Project, you can find the link in that topic here on AA. Thanks for that Fred, For the benefit of anyone interested, i found the two here also at Fandal's Zybex - http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=6271 Draconus - http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=6269 Edit: and everything the site has in stereo - http://a8.fandal.cz/search.php?search=stereo&butt_details_x= Edited February 7, 2019 by Magic Knight

+MrFish
...but only that stuff that has stereo in it's title! which was my fault yesteryear also. But thanks to @Poison I could grab some more titles now Yeah, if you click a details search, you get over 500; that list 'll be mostly demos and music only files. But there are some games in there, like 2048, which I didn't know was stereo before (no indication on the title screen or elsewhere); 2048 has some nice music; I've enjoyed while playing. Dyna Blaster is another one in stereo (music speed is PAL)... Edited February 7, 2019 by MrFish
+CharlieChaplin
Hmmm, http://a8.fandal.cz/search.php?search=stereo&butt_details_x=x that will list all stereo sound demos and games on that site, so you have to sort out the games yourself... (no need to search for "stereo" in the title, stereo in the details is enough and gives a much larger list of titles, just what MrFish already said.) +Stephen
You will DEFINITELY need to check out the collection of stereo RMT files. Especially the 200kHz stuff. Fantastic!

Du you have any specific collection in mind (and a link)? There're some loose sound (RMT?) demos at Fandal's and I'm just listening to Raster's files which are enclosed in his player archive. But 200kHz? Do you mean 20kHz instead? I'm sure my cats don't want to hear great RMT sound files...they're absolutely satisfied with Shpongle

This means that the RMT engine updates all the registers 4 times per frame, allowing for more complex / smooth sounds.

larryleffaovell
Where are said stereo RMT files and how can I play them? Please have a look at http://raster.atariportal.cz/rmt/rmt.htm There're some details about RMT files and used technics. Some RMT files are in the downable archive of the tracker itself. You need a RMT compatible media player (or plugins for that player). Or use ASAP for your favorite OS: http://asap.sourceforge.net/

+Stephen
Where are said stereo RMT files and how can I play them? Here's the notes file I left myself when going through the various archives referenced in post 119: 200Hz RMT examples: Hightide (rmt128\songs\hightide.rmt) Deluxe Dream (rmt119\rmt119\songs\tatqoo\deluxe8ch.rmt) Ninja Starts School (rmt119\rmt119\songs\tatqoo\ninjas.rmt) Forgotten Sounds (rmt119\rmt119\songs\tatqoo\forgotten_low.rmt) I think the entire rmt119\rmt119\songs\tatqoo\ is 200Hz 150Hz RMT Examples: Sunset on the Moon (rmt128\songs\sunset_on_the_moon.rmt) 100Hz RMT Examples: Thrust (rmt128\songs\thrust.rmt)

+Stephen
Um, I think I missed the point and @electrohaze is right; Post #119 WHERE (at which thread/link)? I'm so sorry - I meant post #19 in this thread. http://raster.atariportal.cz/rmt/rmt.htm The notes I provided, will be for the specific RMT archives. So for example, if I reference rmt119, it would be from the archive rmt119.zip. I am attaching 1.19 and 1.28 to this post, since that is what I reference in my notes above. In the archives, you will see the file for playing back on the Atari. It is named "RMTPL107.XEX". Place this file on any Atari disk (real of virtual) and a bunch of the .RMT files you want to play. If there is more than one song, use the number on the keyboard to jump to it. ESC will take you back to the menu. rmt119.zip rmt128.zip
pseudografx
You can make an Atari executable out of any .rmt file in RMT (the tracker) using the "File - Export As" feature.
larryleffaovell
You can make an Atari executable out of any .rmt file in RMT (the tracker) using the "File - Export As" feature. And you can play or convert RMT (or SAP and others) files with your favorite OS using http://asap.sourceforge.net/ With *nix for example one can play a file via terminal by entering asapconv --output=-.WAV INPUTFILE | PLAYERPRG - or convert the music title to XEX very hand by asapconv --output=OUTPUTNAME.xex INPUTFILE
