ultima
Been slowly bringing this closer to a demo. So what's here? - a 32x 22 playfield - a temporary level to play in - lite dialog system - a working store - items to collect (armor, magic ring, roots, helm, treasure) - an enemy to kill (a spider) - death screen - title screen - useable item (heath potion) - enemy randomly drops treasure chests. - score tracks # of gold pieces - inventory system tracks what you find (here I am aiming for selectable weapons and useable items). - Theme is based on JRR Tolkien's The Silmarillion controls - Use JOYSTICK to move and attack with FIRE button. - HOLD the SELECT button to go into inventory. - Cycle inventory by pressing RIGHT on the JOYSTICK. - To use potion highlight it in inventory and press DOWN the life gauge on the lower left will refill to max life. - RESET switch returns to titlescreen - On the "SHOP" screen FIRE is advance/confirm and SELECT is esc/cancel. There is only one item for sale at this time. azure
It's interesting. The character sprites are great. Although, something strange happened standing on the spot on this screen. I kept picking up something whenever I pressed select (ESC on the keyboard). It happened on the chest also. Repeatedly pressing the button seems to keep adding points. StanJr
Really loving this so far. It's cool to see the bare bones of your work with Surtr paying out in this endeavor. Can't wait to see where you take this!
KevinMos3
This really looks awesome. I love the sprites and playfield so far. I'm excited to see where you go with it.
MemberAtarian
Reminds me Simon Quest a bit, with a lot of NPCs with one liners. Love the design and the layout as well, suited for the VCS!My suggestions:-The first line of the pf is black. I may be caused by the score I guess.-You can really kill enemies attacking from the bottom.-Enemies are going for your feet. -If you don't have 2 golds, you can only skip the "buy potion" with pressing the select switch and going to the inventory. ultima
I think I may just move this idea over to assembly programming ( the current version is 32kSC bB). I would like to make this game with at least the full playfield including PL0 and have a little more control of my cycle counting.

King_Salamon
Well it was worth an ask... lol. Any 2600 RPG fans will have lots of things to try at PRGE this year so maybe this will be at next year's show! I'm going to continue to watch the progress on Atariage! ultima
I finally made some progress on this project a major hurdle involving an idea to trace the location of all the characters in a timeline to figure where they are at any given time. Now this was maybe a bit more involving since upon re-reading the silmarillion I read a passage from the history of middle earth books where christopher tolkien mentioned he wished he had tried rewriting the book as there were missing materials at the time it was deadlined, but with all the available writings anyone could "write their own silmarillion". So I went this route using the narrative of the silmarillion as the skeleton of the book and added missing details of the "story" from the lost tales, unfinished tales, the grey annals, morgoths ring, war of the jewels and the peoples of middle earth. And used the full book version of the children of hurin to develop a very uncompressed version of the silmarillion. So using this as my new reference I am now creating a timeline forward from the music of the ainur to the 5th battle of beleriand. Hope this explains why there has been nothing of note going on here.
