I wish I could remember. I wouldn't say I moved up, especially not here lol,  but I did move on to Apple II and then IBM PC after this.

I was wondering about that. I know with apple II about two companies mfg a 8" disk drive controller. But I got a Percom drive system with the atari I just picked up. They have an option to simply plug in other 5.1/2" drives. If they are standard (shugart?) when I don't wee why a cable mod wouldn't work. Now the question would be mod the software to use more sectors to get more space out of the disk

Unfortunately no 'original original' pics of my Atari 8bits,  but I do have a pic from 93-94 that includes my second Atari 8bit (an 800XL).  At the time I was fully on the PC (hosting a BBS, writing C programs, etc). but was occasionally going back to the 8bit or ST for some quality gaming time..

(I was definitely a little less organized in my youth..)

Also an ST pic from the same photo set (any idea which ST monitor that is on the right?  I seem to have lost it since then..)

I think that's a 130XE on the shelf on the upper right..

I couldn't find any photo of my 2600 nor 8-bit that we had beginning from ~1979, but found a photo from 1991 with a 16-bit. Alas, only the SM124 on focus.

All things related to Atari, including magazines, are still in my possession, including the posters in the background (but not the TV) - and myself :)

I love these pictures.  I think most of the time the Atari8 bit users are all hunched over their computer, and the ST users are standing by their setup or just have a picture of the ST.  Ok, a generalization but kinda funny.  Like Atari8 bit users are all like "Hey I'm computing here!" and ST users are like "HEYY..  check out this slick computer I have!"

Anyway, so here I am, ahead of my time, standing next to my computer as if to say "HEYY... check out this slick computer I have".20221127_100900.jpg.adffa48c8d13520d626c6c91324d1e66.jpg

Atari 400 with a 1200/1400 keyboard from Radio Shack (it was a kit they sold) and 48K of memory.  And I have a Percom drive!

Here is my earliest picture, me and my sister.  I sold 17 newspaper subscriptions for the Atari 2600 and my sister sold another four for the Pac-Man game!  She was so cute there!   I later sold the 2600 to get my Atari 400.

And how about a few other ones.  My picture in the Dallas Morning News in 2000 where I got an Atari Jaguar WITH BATTLESPHERE featured on the FRONT PAGE of the newspaper...

A year or so later, got the Nuon -Samsung 2000!

2004... using an Atari Jaguar as a CD+G player for a Christmas karaoke at work!

And there I am with the "HEYY... check out this slick game system I have" pose.

And 2023

It's ironic, back in the day I had an Atari 400 with a touch type keyboard.

Now here I am, with an Atari 800 with a membrane keyboard.  :P  (what can I say, got nostalgic)

Also found this cool TACO shirt (shown above right) for the Texas Atari Computer Owners meeting.  GO ATARI!  :D

Well, I couldn't find any pictures of my old 8bit setup but I did find a picture of

the same desk that the 800XL was on before I graduated to the ST line. That's

a 1040STe. This should be 1989 or so...

PS Yeah, I know - there's a fuzzy mouse cover. Don't blame me, blame the

girlfriend from then.  :)

Man that's an awesome photo! Not sure how you can't miss that, love that you had the boxes nearby and on display as well.

Who's the Japanese girl on the wall? Did you ever get the Ferrari? :D

No never did own a Ferrari, thankfully. The maintenance costs of those things is worse than Ataris. The 'girl' is an advertisement for Sigma lenses. Got the poster in Europe a few years earlier. I had a Sigma camera and lenses (Pentax mount).

My first disk drive that I got a few months after my parents got me my 800XL was a Percom AT-88.  I still have it, and the last time I tried it a few years ago, it still worked.  Time to dig it out again I think… 😁

God I miss console TVs.  We never had one :(  I remember when our 19" living room TV died (lightning strike took it out sometime around 1990 - it was a 1978 19" RCA Color Track).  We upgraded to a 25" but the geometry and image quality was shit compared to that old RCA.  Anyhow - I ramble.

Ah, yes, the famous wood varnish model.

Hmm, you're talking about the desk? Yeah, it was pretty shiny (varnished/finish).

The 1040STe had one of those brown dust covers on it, like the external floppy drive.

Yeah... you do ramble.

It's a common trait for those of us who remember "better days"... so keep rambling.

Hmm... I don't see a cartridge in that partially covered 2600.  And the TV screen is showing a much more graphically impressive game than what the 2600 would be doing.  It looks similar to either Miner2049er or Popeye, but I don't think it's either one of those.  It's definitely not 2600.  I see one CX40 joystick on top of the console, and one on the floor, unplugged.  Can't see the controller in your hand though.  I do agree on the white pants though, sweet! ;-)

Looks like a copy of Goonies on the desk. I think this is on the screen
