Wally1
hi does anybody know of a dungeon crawler (ala Temple of Apshai) or a Star Trek type game that offers REAL-TIME combat; that is not turn-based combat? I hope you know what I am talking about! thanks ?
Christos
Ishar has real time combat but not in the same way that you'd find on LOL or Warcraft. Also, I guess you are looking for something like Homeworld, but I don't think there is something like that on the ST. The games I can think of are more like freespace. ParanoidLittleMan
What is Star Trek type game ? There is Star Trek Rebel Universe http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st-star-trek-the-rebel-universe_22313.html and it has some 3D space combat, but that part of game is not that good. Tillek
I guess my question is, are you talking first person combat, or isometric real-time like Diablo?
Wally1
well I'd settle for a top-down 'Rogue' type game (also like Temple of Apshai) and I just viewed Diablo for the very first time on Youtube and my jaw dropped open! it's amazing what computers can do nowadays! (I guess you can probably tell that I just turned 49!) and to Christos,'Ishar' is in French sad to say. hey while we're talking PCs, is Alienware still a formidable force for gaming? Tillek
Nowadays? I mean, maybe that's the newest Diablo that you were viewing, but Diablo has been around for decades. I was thinking more Diablo and Diablo II. (and 46 here.... yeah, we've seen a lot.....)
+DarkLord
Combat in Dungeon Master is awfully cool - if you're not tried it.
Wally1
Thanks, D.L. for some reason my mind immediately compares something like Dungeon Master to the game that set the bar for me - PC Quake and decides that I probably would be having more fun playing said game. oh well

Wally1
Ayreon, can you point me to a working download of Ishar? Merci.
Zogging Hell
Legend (the later version by another software house) and Shadowlands/ Shadow-worlds are games sort of in the Temple of Apshai style, can't fully remember if the former was real time entirely though (although I spent a lot of time on it a few years back). Nethack as well maybe or Times of Lore?

Thought we were talking about Atari ST games here. If you're going to compare to later PC games, you're wasting your time.
Wally1
DarkLord, the last person to tell me I'm 'wasting my time' was my father. In reference to my hanging out with my American Indian friends. I realize this may be inconsequential and of no import to you, but alas, this is how my mind works. So, that said, I like Quake better than Dungeon Master. No offense taken, and hopefully none given. Wrathchild
Maybe give Warhead a look?
Wally1
thanks much, Wrathchild! I was very impressed by this Warhead on youtube.

It's a great MMO and I play it, my son plays it and my brother (occasionally) plays it. I like GW2 better than quite a few ST games. But it would be pointless of me to compare GW2 to ST games. Apples and oranges, wasting time. Coming into an ST forum, asking about ST games, comparing them to other ST titles (or even games from other platforms of the same era) makes sense. When you start comparing them to (much) more modern games, kinda lose focus though... I hope you can see the point I'm trying to make here. Wally1
Yea, I see your point. Guild Wars 2 looks pretty amazing. To Zogging H., thanks. Times of Lore may just be the game.
Zogging Hell
It's good fun, but occasionally a bit buggy, so (I can't remember how the save works) save fairly often! You can occasionally get trapped in the scenery and there is also the rare complete crash, though that may have been down to my hardware. 5 hours ago, Wally1 said: To Zogging H., thanks. Wally1
well, anypoop, I believe I merely overlooked and taken for granted the so-called 'real-time star-trek type game' ive been looking for: STAR RAIDERS, its own bad self! flying around in an unoccupied quadrant leads to Zylon enemies moving of their own accord, surrounding bases and what not. btw, does anybody know how to restart the game, after dying? and how do i abort a mission? please somebuddy. +DarkLord
Hmm, surprised no one has mentioned this yet, Star Raiders is a great game, but you really need to play the 8bit version for the best experience. Don't mean to come off sounding negative, but I think I'd be remiss if I didn't point this out (and I actually like most ST games over their 8bit versions). It's like Alternate Reality - the City. Awesome on the 8bit, not as good on the ST...

May take little time to get used on control system, but that's what is realistic movement. Can find even hints for missions around. http://atari.8bitchip.info/SCRSH/warhs.html
Wally1
Has anyone noticed that in STAR RAIDERS, the Zylons will not fly into a quadrant that you are currently occupying (and yell 'Surprise!). Meaning that the only way to fight them is to Hyperspace into one of their quadrants. Is this just me, or has anybody else noticed this?
