Mr Robot
I'm using these to learn TinkerCAD, maybe a bit of Blender too. Progress pics wil be here to save interrupting other threads. The 1050 is a great example of why you should just draw your own rather than start with someone else's model. They didn't leave a gap after the metal band before starting the air vents. Now I have to count them, looks like I'll be starting that one again. Edited July 10, 2019 by Mr Robot Progress
+Stephen
Awesome plans! My XYZ 3D printer died early this year. I sadly have no plans to replace it. Too much aggravation for too little gratification. I'll gladly pay for completed products these days. I went full on "Office Space" when I got rid of my printer and it was very liberating.
Gunstar
I like the 810 styled one! They are all cool, of course, but especially that one to me personally! 1

Mr Robot
Did a bit of work on the 810 today, tried to clean up the mess of the 1050 (still think I might need to start that one again. 3D Printer has been ordered, only getting black and white PLA to start with, it's good enough for test printing.

Mr Robot
The thinner the drives got the more length the SDRive-MAX case will need to get the required thickness.

Mr Robot
Gave up struggling with the free 1050 model on thingyverse, too many accuracy issues. I've started making my own.

Geister
Nicely done on all counts! Are you going to sell these or make the STL files available on thingiverse?
Mr Robot
I'll be putting the STL's on my website. I haven't decided if I'm going to offer prints as well, I currently don't have a 3D printer so I have no experience of the process... yet! toddtmw
How long is the XE case? Longest dimension...
Mr Robot
I've a feeling I'm going to be adding some depth to the case in a sort of sloped base or something so I can reduce the WxH (If Apple can do it to make their computers look thinner so can I) it should still look right I hope. +mytek
You did this in TinkerCad? Wow I am truly impressed!!! I've dabbled in TinkerCad myself, but found keeping track of all the objects and their placement with other objects to be very difficult. Glad to see you are enjoying great success. Mr Robot
Yes, this is my first time trying to do something in 3D so I don't have any 3d software except tinkercad and Blender. My brain needs to grow quite a bit before I can get Blender in there! I did tech drawing at school, learning how to visualise stuff in ortho really helped when learning this. There is a lot of flipping from view to view making sure objects are positioned correctly from each side and then grouping them so they don't get moved by mistake. The hardest part for me has been thinking about things in negative space. Because Tinkercad only allows primitives there is a lot of subtracting a thing from another thing, adding that thing to a thing and subtracting the whole lot from another thing to get a workable shape. I was expecting it to be "sticking shapes together to make a thing" and it turns out to be "make a big thing and remove the bits you don't want".
