blainelocklair
Hi everyone! Looking to play backups or downloaded ISOs on your PS2? Totally doable through USB, and super cheap too. No internal HDD needed, so PS2 Slim owners can also put this to work right away. Full details and a simple how-to guide below. Thanks! derFunkenstein
what are load times like? Longer than booting from disc? Reason I ask is that all the POPStarter documentation says that loading PS1 games from USB makes cut scenes in many games skip. I had always assumed that was due to using USB version 1 on the PS2, so load times on PS2 games would be much longer too. That's why I keep a PS1 with a modchip handy. +-^CrossBow^-
I just recently did the McFree Boot softmod on my PS2 but as I had the official network adapter as well, I just stuck an old 200gb IDE HDD onto it and have everything loaded up from that. I did order a SATA adapter for the PS2 network adapter so I have more flexibility with HDD going forward. I even have some older SSDs I could stick in there if I really wanted although that would NOT give any speed increase since again, the data is only going to go as fast as the system bus can deliver and handle.
