leaked battery is a minefield, you will need to open it all up and inspect everything under a magnifier imo.

 

and that could be only part of the issues from an age standpoint.

 

a timely reminder for all - only buy lithium or rechargeable batteries such as eneloops for your electronics you care about! no leaks!!

The problem with leaking batteries is that they leave an invisible layer of acid on the pcb board itself. I would buy a bottle of Isopropyl alcohol (also known as isopropanol or 2-propanol) and a paint brush. Use plenty of the stuff to clean off the acid. You can check if you get it off by a multimeter. The surface of the pcb should not conduct electricity. Use the ohm mode on the multimeter.

Also clean the plastic in the battery compartment. It is likely to be a conductor as well.
