MrMaddog
You mean add desk accessories or just any GEM application?

The default GEM desktop is pretty bare bones. There are ST desktop alternatives you can use that are more configurable. I used to use Terradesk myself. Christos
I don't know much about Amiga, but it seems to me like you want a program launcher. Assuming you are running regular TOS, not Magic or MiNT, you have a few options. Check here at the programstarter section to see if anything suits your needs: https://www.atariuptodate.de/en/util/

ParanoidLittleMan
Desk ACCessory - it must be in root of boot disk, so in case of mass storage root of C : Extension is ACC, of course. Will load after reset or when changing screen resolution . There is lot of them . If remember correct max 6 can be active at once. And better keep that number lower, because they eat RAM, so will be less free for regular programs.
+DarkLord
There's at least 1 ACC that will allow you to "swap" 1 active ACC for an non-active one. Pretty handy really...
Kylev
MultiDesk solved the 6 ACC limit a long time ago. However, PP's warning still applies. Every loaded ACC consumes memory, even when it is not active.

Pretty handy really... Chameleon is one, used that quite a bit iirc as I think it also allows you to unload desk accs so you can get the memory back. Atari74user
Also worth noting Harlekin in its various guises, a multi-desk / multi-tool ACCessory leaving 5 ACC slots free. Also Mortimer, a similar type of product, except it is not run as an ACC, so leaves 6 ACC slots free, all memory permitting as above.
