naujoks
Is there any way of getting the metal parts of the switches shiny again (short of buying a new set of switches)? They look like aluminium and have dulled over the decades...
+Stephen Moss
May just be finger grease & grime in which case a little soap and water & a toothbrush might do it, failing that I don't know if these would work but you could try isopropanol or Brasso. spacecadet
How dull are we talking? The Atari 2600 always shipped with dull switches. They were kind of that "brushed nickel" look. Only the factory refurbished models came out with shiny switches. I used to have one of these; I never looked closely enough to see whether they just capped the old switches or changed them out, but if you're comparing your system to a picture of one of these, then you'd have the wrong idea of what it's supposed to look like. Store-bought systems never had shiny switches.
naujoks
Attaching a picture of my switch. I think it's fair to say that the white bits is oxidisation, which wasn't there when new?
spacecadet
Have you tried some plain old alcohol? Given the surrounds, it doesn't really look like you've hit them with anything yet.
CPUWIZ
Iso-alcohol and a super fine grit sand paper, applied in a single rotation, wrapped around the switch.
