Marius
I have not found what I am looking for... But in this edition of Happy Computer from 04 1986 there is already a 2nd hand Atari 800XE offer. Could be a typo of course. https://archive.org/details/Happy.Computer.N30.1986.04-Cartman/page/n99/mode/2up/search/800xe?q=800xe The advertisement I was talking about could easily be from 1987 too. I am not sure. The only thing I know is that the 800XE was already available way before atari started to make real crappy XE computers. Those early 800XE did not suffer from GTIA bug or whatsoever. Oh and in this 1986 magazine there is also an atari 800XE on sale. https://archive.org/details/Happy.Computer.N33.1986.07-KCz/page/n87/mode/2up/search/800xe?q=800xe Edited March 7, 2020 by Marius
+MrFish
Ah, yeah, I was just searching there too (archive.org) and found three 800XE's for sale in 1986 issues. So, it would seem apparent that the FAQ is off.
Marius
Unless the 800XE mentioned in the Happy Computer magazines are not Atari 800XE computers, but a memory upgrade that was also called 800XE ... I found an Antic Magazine where the 800XE is offered and it seems that that is a memory expansion. https://archive.org/details/1986-08-anticmagazine/page/n107/mode/2up/search/800XE?q=800XE Hmm... this is worth the investigation. Ah, yeah, I just came across that too! It was actually an upgrade for 800XL's.
Marius
It could be 1987... Found my own post: Other posts after my post add information too! Pity that those links in my post do no longer work...

No, but Marius wondered whether '800XE' referred to the target machine itself or simply to the memory upgrade. The latter, it appears.
