Intellivision only playing Activision games?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I took my back up Intellivision off the shelf to fire it up for a little bit. I played Stampede just fine. It happened to be the first game I grabbed. I then tried a few others, burger time, lock’n’chase, poker, I get a purple screen. I put in Pitfall, and it works perfectly the first time. Does my system have a preference or is it just broken?

Sounds like it might a problem with the Executive ROM in your Intellivision unit.  The Activision games I think bypassed the Executive ROM, which is why they would work fine.

That or some are just dirty. I would try and clean them all good and the slot if you can.

Don't the coleco and imagic Intellivision games bypass the exec rom as well? I seem to recall that if you can get Beauty and Beast to come up but none of the Mattel games come up then it is likely an issue with EXEC rom.

Not a problem. Just re-skin the unit as an "Original Activision System" and sell it to cmart for massive profit 😁

I had this problem with an Intellivision II.  It ended up being the right Controller.  I disconnected it and all the games started.

But bypassing the exec seems logical also.
