Albert
I just heard that Curt Vendel passed away unexpectedly yesterday, as reported by his good friend Marty Goldberg on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/105586892805903 I am shocked, dismayed, and terribly sad to hear this, as I've known Curt for 20 years and spoke with him on a regular basis. Curt has contributed a great deal to the classic gaming community over the years and he will be missed. 2
+eebuckeye
Absolutely horrible news. I bought an Atari 1200 from him months ago and will treasure it as I know his contributions to the community are great.
Atari_Bill
Awful news! I purchased one of his awesome awcade machine years ago and he was wonderful to work with. Always tweaking and making things just right. That’s a big hole in gaming history. He will be missed. Fredifredo
Curt did a lot of things for Atari fans. Has an Atari Jaguar fan , it's him that solved problems publishing freely sources from Atari Corps. RIP Curt . Condolences to his family.
Atariman
Rest in peace, Curt. Years ago, when the internet was new to me and I had no idea what had happened to Atari, I came across his site. Not only did I pore over every page, but even contacted him to ask questions. He was kind enough to respond to my noob self and I followed his work ever since. Heck, when I found some random back-up tapes that just had the word 'Atari' scrawled across them, he was the first person I thought of. I am totally shocked and saddened by his death and hope his family and friends can take comfort in all of the stories of people who appreciate his work.
KidGameR186496
Damn... RIP Curt. Condolences to his family. I hope his hard work on the Atari scene is never forgotten. He was truly one of the illuminaries in the Atari fandom...
SS
Wow. I am terribly sad to hear this news. The last time that I saw Curt was at Vintage Computer Fest East in 2019 but it had been more than 10 years since the last time that I had seen him before that. It was great catching up with him and I was looking forward to seeing him again at this year's VCFE but of course the world prevented that from happening. Curt was an interesting guy to say the least; he had a manner about him that was kind of like a Mack Truck! He was boisterous and self assured and a wealth of knowledge. I really liked Curt a lot and am sorry that I'll never get the opportunity to talk with him again.
+nanochess
I had an Atari Flashback 2 some years ago, and while researching it I discovered the work of Curt. So it is pretty sad to hear this.

+wongojack
Like so many others seem to be saying, I contacted Curt once upon a time not fully understanding all of his connections to the world of Atari. He responded with patience, respect, and optimism and was a great person to talk to about Atari. He definitely had more to do and leaves a gap that cannot be truly filled.
