If you just hook up the Orphaneware RS-232 serial card's cable to the TTL adapter, using only TX, RX, and GND, that signal will not be active and terminal programs will not read any of the incoming data.You need to trick the serial card into thinking there is a DCD. To do this all you need to do is jumper pins 7 and 8 together then jumper pins 1,6, and 4 together.
