Hi

I have configured this emulator but I have some little issues, can you help me please?

I have these hardware:

atari3.png

these CPU mode:

atari4.png

these OS:

atari5.png

atari6.png

But I don't know what I have to choose...

1) STAR RIDERS: i tried different roms (.bin, .rom, .atr) but none of them works. Some versions start and i can only see this screen "COPYRIGHT ATARI 1979" and

atari.png

If I try the .atr version, I can only see this screen:

atari2.png

2) ENCOUNTER: it doesn't work. I can see only the title screen

3) RAINBOW WALKER: it doesn't work

I'm only able to play Donkey Kong, in .rom format. It is impossible to run all the others games :(

can you help me? Is is mandatory to find only .rom file? And which is the best configuration?

thanks!

Try the Atari xl/xe OS if you have the rom file for it mapped.

In firmware manager or configure system,  toggle basic so it is off by default.

If you are using an atr file you need to attach it to a drive under file, attach drives.   If you are using an xex file you can use file, boot image.

Give that a try.

Just looking at your settings, you chose an XE with an 400/800 OS...For the early games I'd try the 400/800 Hardware type with the Atari 400/800 OS and Atari BASIC Rev. C instead of Altirra BASIC(of course disable BASIC if not needed)...For the later games, I'd go with the XE/XL hardware with the Atari XL/XE OS and Atari BASIC Rev C.(again disabling BASIC if not needed)...

thanks.

I tired several settings, but I have always the same issues...I tried:

and the .xex and .rom files don't work.

1) STAR RIDERS.bin or STAR RIDERS.rom starts but I can only see "copyright Atari 1979" and  "Star Riders". I can't start the game

2) Rainbow Walker.cas starts but I can see only the title screen and then this:

4) Encounter.xex: i see this:

I also tried to attach drive for Encounter.atr, Rainbow Walker and Star Riders but they don't work...

I also tried to "XE/XL hardware with the Atari XL/XE OS and Atari BASIC Rev C" but I have same issues with these games.  I'm only able to play Donkey Kong.rom...nothing else :(

EDIT: my roms folder, where I put only the firmware (I followed this guide https://www.dosgamers.com/atari-8-bit/atari-8-bit-emulator-altirra) includes these files:

Immagine6.png

And now I have done again a new Altirra installation: during the initial set up, after scanning the "roms" folder", I have this:

Immagine7.png

and then I choosed this:

Immagine8.png

Immagine9.png

Immagine10.png

and this is my Firmware manager screen, where I set as default these 2 firmware, as suggested in the guide linked above:

Is everything correct? Do you suggest some additional settings? I only added this check as requested in the guide:

Immagine12.png

and the scanlines and my joypad config. Nothing else.

If possible i would prefer to run games from booting, so I have to look for .xex, .bin. .rom and .cas games, am I right?  Because I would like to use Altirra with a front end like Launchbox.

Many thanks for your help!

I'm able to play: Donkey Kong.rom, Encounter!.xex and Rainbow Walker (US)(XL-XE).atr.

But I'm still not able to play Star Raiders: I tried several game image (.atr, .bin. xex, and .rom). If I boot image of .atr gmae, I see this screen:

Immagine3.png

and if i load .bin, .xex or .rom files, I can see this screen:

But it is not possible to play it...

This works for me:-

System:- 65XE/130XE

NTSC

CPU:- 6502/6502C

Firmware:- Atari XL/XE OS Ver2

Atari Basic Rev.c

Uncheck the Enable Basic box

Memory Type:- Check Enable MapRAM (XL/XE only)

Acceleration:- Check SIOV patch only

Speed:- Match Hardware

Boot:- Select Default

Check all 3 boxes.

Disk:- I have Show sector count ticked only

Click ok to those settings, then Select File->Attach Cartridge

then browse to a working ROM ( I attach RiverRaid which works)

If it still doesn't work for you then there must be something going wrong when you install it, what version are you installing ?

I selected your configuration, thanks! but the problem was that I didn't know that it is necessary to push F2 in order to start a lot of games... many thanks!

I noticed that at the beginning a lot of games need this choice:

Is it possible to configure the emulator in order to start every game automatically with the recommended setting? I would like to avoid to set it for every game, also because I would like to use Altirra with a frontend like Launchbox.

thanks

yeah! well...i'm sorry, but I didn't know that for a lot of games I need to push F2!!!   It isn't mapped on the Input mapping menu....is it possibile to map F2 on a joypad button?

many thanks!

No worries - I'm sorry I didn't post that earlier!  I am not sure about mapping to a gamepad, I've actually never used a controller in the emulator except for the classic joystick via a 2600-daptor.
