netcoord99
Hi guys! Hey, I was wondering if you all could give me your opinion? Ok, how well do you think the ACE80 / ACE80XL / DT80 80 column cartridges would sell in this day and age? I still own the copyrights and would like to produce more if they are still needed. Is there something out there that has taken their place or are they even needed by Atari users? Thanks!! PS: What would be a fair max price for one of these now considering hardware costs these days? 7
+videofx
I would definitely want one!
+Allan
Depending on price of course, I would want one. It would be nice to grab a cart and throw it in in to get quick 80 columns.
+cjherr
I would be interested in purchasing. Probably a left cart version and a right cart version as well.
JR>
Would definitely buy a right cartridge version.

larryleffaovell
I'd be in for an ACE80XL and an ACE80 (right cartridge), maybe two ACE80, depending on price... Edited October 13, 2020 by larryleffaovell
gilsaluki
ACE80. Wasn't that 80 columns using graphical techniques? Was there any applications that worked with it? Could you word process in 80 columns? Spreadsheets? Or is it just used to program in 80-column view? I might be interested.
Gavin1968
I’d love to produce some.

+ZuluGula
I would say around $30 for cartridge without box, if you make it in nice new shell, like the one from Sikor.

Correct - it was very cool for the time, but it's a software based 80 column cart meaning anything that can use it, loses 8kB of RAM for the "Graphics 8" screen. There's multiple ways of doing the same thing with just software these days. Not trying to "poo-poo" on any projects, but this is not useful for anything besides a collector's item IMHO - not sure why a repro would be made. adam242
I would be interested in an ACE80 (right cartridge) version.

I'm never a fan of collecting for collecting's sake on any system, but I was never able to score an original ACE80 cart, and it'd be fun to have. I'll certainly buy in if a run of these is actually done, but practical application will be limited. I barely use AtariWriter 80 with the XEP80 as it is. ClausB
Yes, software 80 columns using ANTIC mode F. DT80 is the dumb terminal version for use with the ATR-8000. ACE80 is the right cart version for the 800. ACE80-XL is the left cart version for any Atari. They replace the OS E: device so they work with BASIC, DOS, etc. There are patches for the 80 columns versions of Letter Perfect and Data Perfect. The carts have switched ROM so they don't displace any RAM. They do use over 12K of RAM for display, character buffer, character set, and resident code. This old thread has details, including my first ever post to these forums: Edited October 14, 2020 by ClausB
