abeckett
Today I went to play Intellivision and I began by removing the cartridge. I then noticed that the Intellivision was already ON! Oops! It must have been on for a day or two. I turned it off, turned it back on and phew! Looks good! Except... the main sprite is corrupted on most games. Shown is Stampede and Kool Aid Man. Notice the horse is a bit screwy and the kids in kool aid man are just a block. what have I done?
bluejay
Maybe this could help you?
mr_me
I think the cows in stampede are background graphics. Can you test with something that shows all eight sprites e.g. nfl football. So far the 16-bit ram looks okay. If the cartridges run, the cpu is okay. Could be the stic, possibly gram. Test more cartridges to see if that's consistent. abeckett
Great idea. I turned it on and it performs normally. As a minute or two comes along it starts to corrupt and all sprites become square messes. It’s playable - just screwed up. My backup unit had a faulty controller which I repaired last night so I’m not Intellivisioned out - but I’d love to repair this girl. thanks for any advice; Anthony
mr_me
I'm now thinking the stic might be okay. Could be the power supply board. Is this a PAL intellivision?
abeckett
It sure is a PAL Intellivision. I have a recap kit, could try that! anthony
mr_me
It works correctly after turning it off and on; do you let it cool down first? What about a reset?
abeckett
Pressing reset or switching on and off immediately results in corrupted sprites straight away. Once it has been on for a minute - it’s done. It needs time to cool down - maybe half an hour or longer to get a couple minutes of good sprites. mr_me
When you have it open to replace the capacitors; look for problems on the main board visually. Check voltages coming out of the power supply board. Check if any IC is getting particularly extra hot. There's a couple of transistors that seems to be a common point of failure. https://atariage.com/forums/topic/278865-advice-needed-on-repairing-a-motherboard/?do=findComment&comment=4031942
+the1hatman
I suggest some fava beans and a nice chianti.

I haven't even looked at that one since and I did no real troubleshooting at the time. I just hope its not a custom chip.
