OK, I get where you're coming from - but a comparison based on a fault in the display output (you're comparing where the sprites are mispositioned) are not a valid case for discussion on font design.  Totally understand where your'e coming from, but once we fix that sprite position thing, the ESP8266 is going to look totally different. And on the VAST majority of machines it already looks totally different to what you are using as a comparison. For example, put a block over the first 8 characters in those screens, and the Captain Morgan looks just fine.
