carlsson
A status update about aardvarks and anteaters brought my attention to something I think we discussed before, but I can't find the thread. Which well known animals - preferably mammals, but other families of animals are also welcome - have as far as you know never been featured in video games, or at least not as the protagonist? I mean we have some obvious ones like Sonic the Hedgehog, Monty Mole, Brian the Lion, Ninja Hamster, Mr. Nutz and Nutcracka (squirrel) and so on, but which ones can you name that were left out? Perhaps someone else knows a game with those, filling in the gaps.
youxia
In Tokyo Jungle you can play as just about any wild animal, so this should cover a lot of ground.
Steven Pendleton
Pokemon has covered a whole lot of stuff. Obviously not everything is there, but if it's something that comes to mind, there's at least a decent chance that there is a Pokemon that is based on it. No promises, though!

CatPix
Is there any video game with a badger as a main hero?
carlsson
It would seem badgers are present in Shelter and Gravity Badgers, both as recent as 2013 so not really classic gaming. I don't know if Rambi the Rhino (Donkey Kong Country series) can be considered a main character. Perhaps there are no water buffalo, but there are regular buffalo in e.g. Buffalo Roundup on the C64. Keep the suggestions coming!
mbd30
Sloth? Would make a good anti Sonic mascot where it's all about taking it slow. 2

carlsson
It reminds me that a number of years ago, on some forum I don't remember where I posted it, I dreamed up a sloth platformer game and how it would be beneficial to hang onto the branches and not drop to the ground. I can't find that particular discussion anymore, but yes it could be interesting if it hasn't been done yet. The jackalope is interesting. It reminds me of the skvader. +GoldLeader
I'll say I think turtles and crabs get a bad rap, thanks to those Mario brothers!
+GoldLeader
Also for the record, I couldn't think of a game featuring a Beaver, until I backed this on IndieGoGo about a thousand years ago... https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/justice-beaver-new-super-nintendo-game#/ Just a joke BTW, quality takes time and I'd rather the game be awesome than rushed out the door.
carlsson
Beavers were featured already in 1993.

carlsson
For that matter, I think that a discussion about anthropomorphic adult oriented games belongs elsewhere.
cedropoole
The Adventures of Slappy the Three-Toed Slouth is an incredibly relaxing platformer.
fiddlepaddle
Just read about the skvader referenced above; sounds very similar to jackalope. I bet the myths developed in similar fashion. Based on perceived physiology, the skvader probably couldn't fly, but then a jackalope probably couldn't even stand up.
Eltigro
Didn't see the original status update... so not sure if Anteaters were named as an animal that wasn't featured in a game, but there is/was an arcade game called Anteater... I remember playing it as a kid.
