Season 11 ~ Week 6 ~ Atlantis

Well, I tried both my text label and picture night carts and can say this- I suck at both. I feel like I’m missing some key strategy bc I cannot for the life of me break my measly 26k. Maybe once I post this I’ll have a breakthrough game...

 

Or I’ll go back to the torture that is the next round, hahaha.

An improvement at Atlantis. I think this is as good as it will get from me.

 

As an aside, I have got more into this one as the week has gone on. Although I know that this is a favourite of many, I never played Atlantis as a kid, so there is no nostalgia attached to this one for me. And at first, I struggled to get what all the enthusiasm for this one was about. But as I played it more, I got into it as the kind of simple, fast paced game that the 2600 did so well. I can certainly see why it's a favourite of people who played it when it first came out

Atlantis was a new game for me this week too, and I wondered how it became so popular.  The concept of defending a city from an overhead attack seems to be copied from Missile Command.  With the fixed shooters, the game play itself felt more like a variation of Air Sea Battle with improved graphics and sound.

This is my first time playing Atlantis.  Fun, tough game!  I rely on my center cannon, after it's gone, I try my best, but it ends up being "shoot randomly and hope something happens".  A strategy seems to be to intentionally allow slow ships to get pretty low, holding up the faster ships, since they don't seem to pass each other.
