7800 2
I was browsing the Best Electronics website and noticed a new link on the front page. http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/New Best Auto 2600 Power Supply.htm He now sells a brand new 2600 power supply. It is a long read.
+sixersfan105
I came across this same "article" on Best's site the other day and sent Brad an inquiry earlier this afternoon for one of these power supplies. They sound like a great alternative to the "real thing" and probably even better, for the reasons mentioned at the above link. Sounds like he ran out of his original stock of OEM 2600 power supplies a few years ago. Does anyone here have one of these new offerings? Nightbringer
Is the 2600 particularly sensitive to power? I've taken a couple random 9V power supplies (switching and linear) and put a 3.5mm jack on the end without any noticeable problems.

In fact, I'm purchasing the one from Best for my Magnavox Odyssey 2, as it's an early model that shares the 2600 PSU's specs. I like that Best's cord length is so long - 15 feet - even longer than the OEM 2600 supply which varied between 10 and 12 feet. I try to shy away from the modern replacement power supplies because they tend to be very cheaply made (retrobit's offerings and similar). nick3092
The Triad WSU series tends to be a well regarded switching PSU that does not not cause noise in old consoles, not overly expensive, and available from multiple vendors. Personally, I only have one console hooked up at any given time. So I made up several adapters using plugs from Console5 so that a single Triad brick can power pretty much anything either directly or with a short pigtail adapter. I also have a 7.5v version that can be used on many classic consoles with a 7805 that allows it to run cooler. Some exceptions are consoles that expect 9vac in (the built in rectifier drops the voltage too low) or consoles that still need 9v in addition to the 5v. +sixersfan105
For anyone that's curious, here are some pics of the new Best 2600 power supply. Works like a charm on my early model Odyssey 2. Seems like a lot of thought went into it, making it look like an original Atari product, from the box down to the little warranty sticker on the PSU itself!
