repetto74
Hi, I need a composite video cable for a SMS I recently pick-up as it came with aerial RF cable only. Is the pinout of this cable the same as the one for the C64/Vic20 composite DIN cable?
+-^CrossBow^-
I don't believe it is the same as the Vic-20 no, but it is the same as the Genesis/Megadrive model 1 AV cable.
repetto74
Hi, I have tried with a composite cable I made a few months ago for the Dragon32 and it worked. Same pinout but I am not really satisfied with the result. Can the SMS be modded for the RGB output or is it native?
+-^CrossBow^-
SMS has native RGB just like the megadrive model 1. In fact, you can even use the same RGB cables. I think it suffers from similar issues with jail bars like the model 1 megadrives as I've heard of RGB bypass boards being installed into them. But when I used my HDRetrovision cables on my SMS I didn't have any jail bars and I thought it looked really good! Good enough that I didn't feel the need to do anything more with it. But this might vary from revision to revision of the SMS. Mine is an early model NTSC that has the leaf switches for the pause and reset and only has the included snail maze game on it. It uses an older Sony encoder that predates the one used in the Megadrive/Genesis.
repetto74
Hi CrossBow. Thanks for your inputs. I have a bunch of RGB scart cables here for other machines so I may try my luck with one of those or buy the dedicated RGB cable. My SMS is the PAL-G version for Europe by the way.
