Lord Mushroom
The Atari share price has gone up by 160% since March 5th. What is going on? Is it the potential future hotel royalties which are driving stock prices? Or is the VCS a bigger success than expected? If both, is it 50/50 or 80/20 or whatever?
zzip
If I was to guess... They've released news about NFTs which seems like the new hot thing
youxia
Call me old fashioned, but every time I hear about something starting with "crypto", my mind switches off and puts a "scam" label on it. To some extent it's probably an unfair generalization but I'm quite happy with it as it is.

In March they got more hotel deals where they are guaranteed an additional $3,5 million plus 5% of revenue. If the hotel company is willing to pay $3,5 million, no matter what happens, that suggests they expect high revenue.

I don't think 3.5 mil is going to triple their revenue? So this run seems speculative. Probably a combination of both

But expecting to get 5% of a very high annual revenue (like $200+ million) that would justify such a jump in share price. And the hotel company wouldn´t pay $3,5 million unless they expected a high revenue. I have no idea what kind of revenue hotels generate, though. Rogerpoco
I'm thinking that, for enthusiasts... "Activision" coming back to life almost even surpasses the VCS itself coming back to life, and possibly lends some credibility to the overall idea, associated or not. Don't have a clue, the new VCS isn't even on my radar yet, tho I couldn't imagine not eventually getting one, but I really think the Audacity news kicked EVERYTHING into overdrive, as far as enthusiasm.
AlecRob
I think we all want to see the Atari brand survive in some way or another. I’m glad their stock is going up! Personally I enjoy the VCS, and I’m really curious to see where this hotel idea goes. It could potentially make the company a LOT of money if it is a success. +Nathan Strum
So... it's nearly a dollar then. Is that when it's no longer considered a penny stock? 1

I didn´t know about Audacity. I can see why it would get hardcore fans excited, but I don´t think it had any significant effect on the Atari stock.

It's been shorthand for 'cryptography' for decades; there's no way these gobshites didn't go for deliberate confusion when using that word to refer to their speculative markets.

That used to be the definition, and in my opinion that is the best definition, but now it is defined as any stock priced below $5. So Atari still has a long way to go. But that figure is in Euros, so by the old definition Atari is no longer a penny stock. Edited April 13, 2021 by Lord Mushroom

As long as they are doing something (worth doing) in the field of games/consoles/computer, I wish them all the best. I am not so fond of cryptcocurrency, hats with speakers and non-fungible tokens, though. I don´t know what to think about the casino stuff yet. But video game themed hotels sound great.

I seem to recall that in the beginning bitcoin people had some noble ideas about it being an alternative, untraceable currency (ultimately a good thing), hence "crypto", but I doubt anybody remebers or cares about it now (kind of like with the idea that internet was supposed to be free and open...). When people lose their minds over using gaming cards to "mine" for digital fool's gold, or pay millions of US$ for a bunch of .jpgs you know it's all back to "normal" 4

Audacity is not Activision. David Crane is doing more to alienate other programmers from our friendly community right now than attract them. Did Audacity they make a really neat game? They sure did. Are they putting down others saying that they are less than cause they are only homebrewers which makes them less professional? Your damn right they did. And when you boil it on down what Audacity is doing is exactly what so many others have done for many years. They are not some great second coming with an all new flavor coming back from days of old as they present themselves to be. As far as quality goes, Albert has been doing that much and more for close to 20 years and so have a good number of others. They are at a smaller scale than Albert but the thing is Albert doesn't go around saying that those others are doing something less than he is cause Albert isn't a douche. 7 1

And NFTs are a part of that. So it is (mainly) the blockchain stuff which has been driving the stock up.
