How to catch application messages

Recommended Posts

This might sound like a silly question, but when you run an application via a double-click and it

opens a text screen with information, is there a way to capture those messages.

The reason I ask is I'm running a program that prints a message, then closes before I can see what it's saying

and the program is not running correctly.

I know Ctrl-3 and Ctrl-1 will pause/release scrolling, but this is a single message that does not scroll.

It is just flaw of those apps - because TOS don't give any delay in case of app close, and immediately shows Desktop.

Better SW will insert before app close some delay or waiting on some key press.

I added special key press waiting in TOS, for case of multiple AUTO run programs, on request, right because such situations.

I guess that could be added for program/app close case too ..

I made short program what will freeze screen by program termination  until space key is pressed and released

That's very kind of you, thanks very much, will give it a try later and report back ?

Works fine in STEEM with the application I am using, so on real hardware, should be fine

Was afraid you would say that, sometimes running from a command window has it's benefits, can

always redirect output to a file

I kept a CLI program on my ST hard drive so that I could run .TOS and .TTP programs and actually see what the output was.

The one I used to use was called 'Gulam'

May as well post it anyway.

Otherwise we're condemned to an endless stream of ......

Do you still have the link to Gulam?

I'd like to check it out too.

PS Never mind - found it.  :)

A few weeks back I was having a similar problem.  I put my camera on a tripod and booted my Atari while recording a video of the whole sequence.  Then played it back on my laptop in slow motion and was able to read the error message.
