As a bonus, the opening demo level is now playable for the first time (that i am aware of). and is stored as level 051. to play it. press CTRL+E on the title screen for the board editor. press P to Play enter 051. champlode.zip 4

_The Doctor__
not the ROM version perhaps, but the disk version with levels etc and converted to XEGS cart type? Just guessing here...

_The Doctor__
so the editor is injected into the original rom? maybe a space constraint... I guess we'll have to wait for a response...

.mad.
Yes, I edited the XE ROM which had the board editor inculded. The very same one as shown in your screen shot picture above. The Championship levels were taken from the disk version. The original Championship version does not have an editor or any cheat hot keys (level skip/extra life). And the level data uses a different character set so it had to be converted to the original Loderunner font to work. This is the reason why the Title screen does not say CHAMPIONSHIP as well. which i would very much like to see, but i am not an Atari coder. :) i deleted part of the original title screen just to show it was a different version. no other reason.

_The Doctor__
Mr Fish, you make nice mock ups and some real screens, maybe whip something up for .mads to use on his cart?

Lord Thag
This is pretty neat, thanks for doing the work! Too bad I can't even beat most of the basic levels on the original cart ?
.mad.
just had an idea! This screen should be possible using drawn graphics rather than the font.
Level42
I hope I’m not interfering but I have a question: I totally enjoy Loderunner on the Lynx (which has the A8 version as its basis) because it has two buttons to dig left or right but I never really understood how this works on the A8 version. Is there maybe a hack that allows 2 button control on the A8 ?

Since you are using the cart code, please include the name of the one that made the port from the original Disk version. I understand it was quite some work because, IIRC, he didn't receive the original source code. He doesn't deserve the name to be removed from the title screen. Otherwise, great work. I loved this game!

This is part of the reason for my question about it: Atari and Chuck Peavey both have a part in getting this from disk to cart.

.mad.
This version looks as good as i can make it, with the room available. i am more than happy with it. :D Remember this is not an original release, but a hackish version. i ended up using cut and paste in a Hex editor on the title screen graphics. I don't have an Atari paint program, so can not tweak it any further. if anyone wants to edit it, i don't mind. ;)champlode v2.zip

Nice job. I have an Atari paint program... I'ts the same number of pixel high as the one you currently have in your ROM; but it starts a little lower in the display, as per the disk version title, which has a shortened Broderbund logo. champ lode xe.xex Edited August 12, 2021 by MrFish 2
+MrFish
I forgot, that binary is in character mode. You'll need something in bitmap mode, in order to paste into your ROM. Here's a MIC file, which should work for you. champ lode xe.mic
