I too use the Hyperkin Ranger and LOVE it.  Good quality build.  Unfortunately the Paddle controller does not function on the Atari 8 Bit.   I have not tried it on a 2600, but sure it will work since it was designed primarily for that system.

Good to know.

I wanted to try this, cant find them locally. Found a few far places with stock, thinking of ordering 4 x for use with Altirra but dont know if I should order just 1 in case they suck.

I was told by a fellow Abbuc member that it actually works, but the Ranger acts as paddle 2, which is the default for one player games on the 2600. To make it work with 8bit games you can do a little soldering to behave as paddle 1.

Well, we'd all like to know how that little soldering is done. Schematic, photos.

Hmmm, this is great info. Ill get one for the 65xe im restoring and if i get the paddle to work ill post about it here. When i read the paddle doesnt work on a8 i started ignoring its existence lol.

you can still buy the Excellent Hyperkin Ranger and buy some paddle controllers for the few games that use them.  99 percent of your gameplay will be with a joystick/joypad, not with paddles.

Just bought a brand new Ranger premium wired gamepad and found this out the hard way.

Well it only cost $10.
