I know nothing about this game so if there are any special rules we need to enact please let us all know.

General HSC Season Rules:

• To participate, just post a score to the thread. Anyone can join in at any time.
• A picture or screenshot is encouraged when posting a score but not required.
• The season is 15 rounds long.
• Games will be posted on Sundays and run two weeks through Sunday at 11:59 PM CST.
• Do not exploit game glitches, take advantage of 1-up loops or intentionally die in order to replay a level.
• If "point pressing" is not specified in the game rules you should be moving forward in an attempt to complete/loop the game and not "camping" for points.
• No emulator save states, slow-mo, rewind, etc.
• No cheats, e.g. Konami code, Game Genie, etc.
• Turbo controllers are allowed.
• Season points are awarded according to the following chart:

best advice I can give is shoot and dodge. The bombs have a wide arc and can block one shot. If you can get to the level end with the red plane, your score multiplies. Best of luck

Be aware that on certain emulators (FCEUX, Nestopia) the game has a tendency to bug out and in the case of the former, corrupt entirely. There is no setting to fix this sadly. You can also see the scanlines even if they are set to 0

This isn't very good...and I have a very high tolerance for subpar shmups. It feels jittery, lacks proper excitment and the hitbox feels wrong.

The NES port was reveloped by Micronics which explains everything.

 

But they developed another helicopter shooter for NES called Twin Cobra which is great. Go figure.

Yeah, not as good as I remember. 

Only advice I can give is, don't die, have bombs and planes to get the bonus

I see you already beat your personal best, but fyi, nope, only scores obtained during the round period are accepted for the contest. New highs posted afterwards will be considered exhibition and added to the website (like wongo’s awesome tmnt3 score!)

Great job. I admit the game has not aged well. Are you playing on the OG model or the top loader?

Depends on where I play  ?   Top Loader in one room (all my retro stuff and 32" CRT).  OG Model connected to 13" CRT in my office.   Emulator (usually Mesen) when playing at my PC.  And Mister when playing on the HD/Flatscreen.

 

So, all over the place.

It's a system based on a processor that can do emulation on a hardware level. It's way more efficient, and could be more accurate, although not necessarily. Depends on the system.

Yeah, it's not a great game -- nothing I'd get excited about playing on my own -- but competitions like this helps squeeze a bit of extra fun out of these mediocre games, in my opinion.  So long as it ain't broke and unbearable, there's usually some fun to be had, with the right mindset.

I usually do not debase myself by participating in the NES High Score Club on AtariAge, but seeing as how you all were playing one of my favorites from childhood I decided to join in.  Pretty good score of 226,420, but I was not able to loop it.

There are plenty of youtube videos explaining it, and showing it working.

It doesn't attract me as much as it once did. Retroarch is so advanced and tight nowadays that I doubt I would spot any difference. Besides, my favourite system, the Commodore Amiga, has the same inaccuracies both on winUAE and MISTER.
