tyranthraxus
I am badly in need of clearing up space in my apartment and to raise a little cash too. I've cleared out a few systems but I need to cut a little more. But damn I am obessed! Every system has its charm and exclusives. I've decided to keep my Colecovision & NES to play and collect and one Atari system. So if you had to cut off a limb which would you choose? Atari 5200 Atari 7800 Atari 800XL For all of these I've got decent crops of games, 20-30 each & some rares and uncommons & pretty much all of duplicated games between the 3 Atari systems. Nukey Shay
If you are after cash...sell off the stuff you don't need at the moment that is easy to replace. i.e. the common stuff. Hang on to the rare stuff for later on down the road when things aren't so tight. You can always make do with emulation for the time being...but the rare stuff would be hard to replace should you decide to get back into it later. sku_u
Although this goes against my every grain, I'd have to say cut either the 5200 or the 800XL because the systems are very similar.
angusjake
Hey tyranthraxus - don't forget its good karma to sell to locals first!
Ze_ro
I'd dump the 5200... since you have an 800XL, you shouldn't have any problem finding pretty much all the 5200 games for the computer instead (plus, you're not stuck with those horrid 5200 controllers). --Zero

intvgene
Well, I agree that you should probably choose either the 5200 or the XL... But to me, the XL is more of a computer system, not a gaming one, and with all the problems with disks, I got rid of my XL stuff. I made the division between collecting computer stuff and gaming consoles. But, don't sell off your 5200 easily... remember we just talked about how hard it is to get in Canada! Then again, what good games justify keeping the 7800? The only reason I really have one is for the truly Impossible Mission. But, that's just me. Susuwatari
I'd dump the 5200 as well. Like other said, you could get the same game for the 800 plus 800 could have far more games than the 5200 has.
tyranthraxus
I've changed my mind on which system to cut about 100 times in the past month They all have advantages. 5200 is just plain cool to own and collect, and the sticks are nice when they work. The 800XL has all the same games & more but is a clunky computer, with one button joysticks and no analog Centipede or Missile Command, but its version of Donkey Kong is quite awesome. 7800 has got a great version of Joust, plus Galaga & Xevious and I own Impossible Mission, Commando & Xenophobe. I think what I will have to do this week is set them all up and have a major play session and see what I enjoy the most.
Nukey Shay
Do you have a wife and children? If so, keep the systems and sell them There's a easy solution to everything  How much for the little girl?
Brad2600
You should sell your rarest games and keep the commons. It worked for me. I miss having Mr.Do's Castle but I have plenty of games with rarities of 5 or 6, that it's good enough for now. Plus, I made enough off of Mr.Do to pay a few bills. I also sold off all my loose INTV games..but kept the boxed ones and the INTV itself. You have to compromise in some ways. If you have a N64 or a Saturn that doesn't get played, sell 'em. They're not rare or anything right now and they're not exactly the best systems either.
RangerG
With all the new ports from the 8-bits to the 5200, I would keep the 5200. The 5200 has so much more style than the other two choices!

sigma
I'd say your left leg, that way you will still have your hands to play games, and you'll still be able to drive.
Saikyo
5200 or 800XL Here too! either one of those because the games are so similar and you wont be missing much!
Shannon
Sell your 5200 and 800xl, buy a dreamcast and a keyboard addon and burn yourself a copy of the dreamcast a800/5200 emulator. Wala... A whole new console and you can still play the old atari greats. Heck you can even sell your 7800, although 2600 emulation on the dreamcast isn't as good as it should be. I'm not sure about 7800 emulation, have not tried it yet. On a more serious note, if space is an issue, the 5200 does consume alot of space. tyranthraxus
Well the decision has been partial made for me. 800XL will go. I had an old offer to buy a bunch of the games and that person finally got back to me. They're buying most of the games that I play on the machine so its now pretty easy to let it go. Still its hard, that computer I picked up 3 years ago and it pretty much is the reason I am into Atari today. It was really a great thrift find, it wasn't cheap but finding it and those games was a revalation for me and my PS2. I also think I will sell off my rare 7800 games and possible the machine itself. Its been getting pretty dusty since I got the 5200. Yeah its bulku buts its really one of the coolest vintage consoles made, warts and all. The dreamcast is one of the things I want to make space for. But thats for later in the year once I've got my bills all caught up. Thanks for the input everyone. Shannon
Drat... I was actually considering offering snagging up your 800xl games if you decided to get rid of it. Well best of luck. Personally I don't think it's the best choice (at least for me). But sounds like you went with the one that is getting used, and that is probably the way to go.
