angusjake
It looks like some home-job modification to a trak-ball but why is it going for so much? http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...&category=41009
NovaXpress
It's going for so much because it is a custom job (lots of serious labor) and it looks like a nicely done one. I wouldn't want this though. He's really just making a better base for the joystick, so why not use a WICO in there for top performance? That thing sure looks cool I gotta say. I still don't see the need for the keyword 'prototype' being thrown around when it says "handbuilt from genuine atari parts" Also there is another thread in the auction central section about this, just too lazy to get a link. MrRetroGamer
I still don't see the need for the keyword 'prototype' being thrown around when it says "handbuilt from genuine atari parts" Exactly - the use of the word prototype is fooling some collectors who don't know any better. I'm sure it is labor intensive to build one of those, but I don't think the price should be up that high.
jetset
You can't really blame them for using the word "prototype" any more than the 100's of auctions for Frogger, Combat or Air-Sea Battle being "rare" can you? I think it's pretty cool just from the standpoint that you've got spring loaded fire buttons with the stock stick. It's going for a stupid amount of money though. $50 bucks max imo. Goochman
Imagine if Atari actually built these things and replaced the original stick with them. Now imagine trying to play Space Dungeon which requires 2 sticks You need the whole living room just for the console and 2 sticks!
Dantaipan
That guy has sold one of those at least once before. Waste of a trak-ball IMO. It would be better if he added the stick to the trak-ball with a switch to choose between them and also added an arcade fire button. Now THAT would be worth $50. Vic George 2K3
I would have preferred an arcade-quality ball-type control knob instead of that nubby "dead fish" 5200 stick, if that's what it's using.
Saikyo
the stick looks like it recenters it's self though!
MrRetroGamer
the stick looks like it recenters it's self though! I don't think it does - it's using standard 5200 pots in there, I asked the seller.
sku_u
Seems like a waste of an analog controller and trakball to me. I'd like to see someone hack up a trakball to have two controllers for use with Space Dungeon and Robotron 2084.
