Henry Lee
After I moved to an new appartment, I hooked my 4 port A5200. NO response, there is no red light on the deck. Is it the deck, the power, or the RF swich? How can I verify this? Is there an expert out there that can give me a hand?
buzzguy
Maybe the RF/Power box needs to be replaced...they cost like 20 bucks on ebay. Best of luck.
ApolloBoy
Have you tried pushing the power button? Tapping it will do nothing, you kinda have to push it a tad bit. If that doesn't work, try replacing the switchbox like buzzguy said, and if that doesn't work, replace the power supply.
sku_u
Do you have a multimeter? If so, you can test the fuse on the funky box that connects the game system to the TV. The fuse may have blown. If so, it's a relatively easy fix.
Henry Lee
thank you very much... it might be the rf switch, because everytime i was inserting the deck's cable to it there was little sparkles coming from the rf, the last time well.. nothing. Ill try to shop for a new system. and then check out what wasthe problem
+-^CrossBow^-
If your not getting any spark when plugging in the system into the RF..then the Power supply is most likely the problem... You have to crack the case open..but there is a fuse in there that is replacable. However I have always stood on the side where if a Fuse blows..something else must be wrong to have caused that... so I say try the fuse first if you wish..and it isn't a difficult fix. But also think about a new power supply. Here is something...do you hear the switch box click over at all? There is a beefy relay in those things that you can physically hear when it switches the power over through the RF.
rushguy
Mine just stopped working heard the clicking sound but no red light , do I need a new switch box or is it something else ?
rayik
The fuse is in the power supply brick. You should check that and replace if blown. I've replaced them on supposedly bad PSUs.
rushguy
Got it working somehow , I think it's a short in the power supply cable , just jiggled it around. Ever hear such a thing, how common is that ?
0078265317
I have the same problem. The thing went red for once second and then turned off. I was so scared. 4 port also. Turns out the switchbox rca and power cords were loose and not snug. Or is the box finally going bad?
zylon
There's a good chance the contacts inside the sockets are just dirty or corroded.
0078265317
Too bad replalcement boxes are so expensive on ebay. And I am no good with soldering. Maybe if I can find a cheap 2 port. My box is going wonky. Turns on now. But the slightest tap twist of the cords and its off. Even once while in the middle of a game it went off. No touching anything other than the controller. 0078265317
You live in Ga now? And are ypu saying something other than the contacts could be broken?
zylon
You live in Ga now? And are ypu saying something other than the contacts could be broken? I'm actually suspecting a bad solder joint, or a crack in a trace near the 5200 cable socket.

There is a beefy relay in those things that you can physically hear when it switches the power over through the RF. After learning of the sparks from AVGN I make an effort to always have it unplugged from the wall when I connect or disconnect from the RF box. Arcing electricity can't be good and could be why the fuse gets blown on some units.
MEtalGuy66
Just do the Direct-power and Composite video mods.. Or get someone else to do it for you.. Its well worth it.. That switchbox is a PITA and being stuck with RF-output only is severely limiting these days in terms of display compatability.
CRTGAMER
The RCA input on the 4 switch box is fragile, might need a remelt of the solder to the PCB inside. That is what happened to mine once, I have since trimmed back the insulation on the 5200 RF lead for an easier connect.
