classics
Hi I've made a cartridge version of Ultima IV that features no disk flipping or switching and automatic save and restore from flash memory. Anyone interested in helping test out the first version? Post here or send me a PM and I will send you the flash cartridge image for testing. You will need a real XL/XE computer with at least 64k memory and an Atarimax 8mbit flash cartridge. Thanks Steve

Velcro_SP
Oh... my... stars... A cartridge version of Ultima IV? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is so great! I only have an Atari 800 though! It has 64K though. You say XL/XE-only but maybe I could run it? It is well worth buying an 800XL to try this though, but I've been cutting back and selling systems and I hesitate to buy another one. One thing is certain though, as they said in biblical times: Thou doth rock, Classics!
AlanD
I would also be interested in beta-testing it. Just got a 8meg flash cart a while back and this would be a good reason to really play with it.
classics
@Velcro: The ram under the OS is used for saving games to the flash memory, so it wont work on a 48k 800. If you really like Ultima it might be worth finding a XL or XE... just not having to flip disks 500 times makes the game a lot more fun. @AlanD: Thx for trying it out, you have PM. The Eidolon
What a nifty idea! Sounds like a good way to get people to buy flash carts. I'd love to have Ultima IV on a cart. (Of course, the holy grail would be to have AR on a cart...) Too bad it's XL/XE only, as I only have an Atari 800. Maybe it's time to get an 800XL... --The Eidolon
Goochman
Will there be a way to save your U4 player status outside of the cart? This is a loooooooong game and one wouldnt want to lose their current status to load another image on the cart
+Mitch
Any chance a MMC flash cart will be coming out? Mitch
classics
@Goochman: Youre right, a utility to move characters from cart to disk and back is in order. @Mitch: Yes but it wont be the same thing... think more along the lines of MyIDE. AtariDude
I wish they had this back in the day. It has been a long time since I last played Utima IV. I never got to finish it but I did get to finish a few of the early Ultimas (1,2,3 and 6). I wish I still had a real Atari 800XL to run it on. Oh well. Looks like a cool project that you created there
