uosipa llamxew
A few great Famicom games off the top of my head. Many of these you can get either on a multi-cart or included on one of those Famiclone pirates that are so popular in the malls these days. Some were actually released as PAL NES carts, but never released in the states. Others are great games, but might be hard to play without a translation (ie, Sweet Home). Mappy Binary Land Flappy Goonies WarpWarp Devil World Summer Carnival Recca Over Horizon Armadillo Moon Crystal Moai Kun Ninja Taro (any of them) Ufouria Mr Gimmick Legend of Prince Valiant Sweet Home
Xot
Three words: NUTS AND MILK. Also, Antarctic Adventure is pretty good.
uosipa llamxew
Three words: NUTS AND MILK. Ah, yes. How could I have forgotten? Nuts & Milk is better than half of the games I already listed.
Dr. Morbis
Don't forget Super Mario Bros. 2! And a lot of translation patches for text-intensive games like Sweet Home can be found here: http://donut.parodius.com/?func=trans&platform=nes
NE146
RECCA for sure.

J.Max
Devil World! It's the best Pac Man Clone ever, and it's the only Miyamoto game to not make it to the US.
uosipa llamxew
A few I forgot to mention: Gradius II - Great sequel! Crazy Climber (I bought this boxed a while back. I just wish I had the little sticks that attach to the gampads) Family Kid - Sonic the Hedgehog clone Rampart - The Famicom version is completely different than the version we have seen - very quirky and fun. If you like Rampart at all, check it out! Hopefully one day it will be translated!
crveatch
Legend of Prince Valiant Is that based on the cartoon that used to be on television?

The Eidolon
I highly recommend the SD Gundam Gachapon series, especially the second one. It's a bit like Archon but with little superdeformed Gundam mechs. --The Eidolon
aryoshi
Old topic is old, but I'd like to throw in Esper Dream 1 and 2 to the list.
Reaperman
Cocoron is a great platformer where you construct your own character from their box of bodyparts. There's a pretty nice choose-your-own-path aspect. Kind of like mega man games, but I like cocoron more. Recca is hugely recommended. I picked up a 'repro' of the "Recca Pure" hack which allows quick access to all of the modes without having to beat the game. It's amazing how much punishment the nes can dish out. Slowdown is severe, unavoidable, but not unwelcome. I've always wanted a copy of Holy Diver as well--mainly because of Dio. Not that the game seems related in any way, but how cool is the title? Looks like solid oldschool castlevania gameplay. Famicom Wars. I keep hunting for a good translation of this for the old powerpak, but it hasn't happened yet. Also, not a japanese release, but euroland got a pretty good copy of Elite. It won't run on 60hz hardware at all, so you'll want a euro system to match. Legend
Holy Diver is definitely fun. Chronicles of Radia War/Tower of Radia is a great action rpg. Fire Emblem is really cool. Especially if you like Famicom Wars. Gettsu Fuuma Den is a great action adventure game. Sugoro quest is a pretty fun quirky rpg/board game Definitely Sweet Home for survival horror rpg. Valkyrie's Adventure is pretty fun. Wings of Madoola is a good one I hardly ever hear anyone mention. Tough though. Motocross Champion is like an upgraded Excite Bike. Just Breed is an interesting strategy rpg. Joy Mech figh is actually a good fighter on nes. Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey Bu is just plain awesome! Both Konami Wai Wai orld games are cool and let you play as several konami characters. Higemaru Makaijima is like Zelda, but more arcade-like and just as fun. Like Zelda meets Popeye. Don Doko Don 2 is a fun playformer. Kid Dracula is good but tough and the quiz part is lame though. Quarth is an interesting puzzle/shooter game. Grand Master is worth playing although you might pull your hair out at times. Shufflepuck Cafe. Plasma ball is kinda interesting. I definitely second the Japanese port of Rampart Those are my favorites anyways. They all either have translations available or can be played without one. For FDS: Druid Lutter Knight Move Super Lode Runner II Fire Bam Vs. Excite Bike Otocky Famicom Grand Prix

Legend
Wow! I didn't even realize how old this was and that it was a bump when I saw it. p.s. Mighty Final Fight is another one that rocks!

in the dark
Even though it is an old thread, I saw that one game was not listed that is a worthy play. "Chrisis Force" is one of my favorite Famicom shooters.
Satoshi Matrix
You mean "Crisis Force". Check out my top 100 NES/Famicom games list. Many of the games you've mentioned (and a few you didn't) are there. Of course, its just my opinions, so take it as such.
Legend
Couple I forgot. Super Star Force is interesting. Kinda like a shmup with time travel and zelda elements. Not like Guardian Legend though. Gekitotsu Yonku Battle is a very fun game similar to Rally x in some ways.
