Thomas Jentzsch
While disassemling the game, I found that you can start it without the Kid Vid by using the following sequence: 1. enable Color mode 2. move left joystick down 3. switch to B/W mode 4. press select and hold it 5. move left joystick up Did you know that already or did I discover a new Easter Egg? dwh
Why don't you send me a 'free' copy of this cart. and I'll check it out!
MattG/Snyper2099
well, you may have found out something new but... I remember when I first recieved this game I tried to test it and got nothing on the screen. Then I went nuts trying to flip the switch on my 2600 until it did finally, a couple times, show some graphics but it still wasn't playable. Is it playable when you do this sequence??? The one, where you have to mix some colors.

MattyXB
Can't get it to work on Emulator? Do I soemthing wrong? I use Stella X and press the following. F3 Color Mode, L or Cursor Down F4 B7W mode F1 Select O or Cursor Up I have try with both Joysticks, but nothing work? On Z26 I have try it too with these keys: F4, down or D, F3, F2, Up or E. But work too not. Or will this only work on the real game? [ 02-14-2002: Message edited by: MattyXB ]

MattyXB
Forget to hold select, must try it again. Have read it wrong sorry. Yes, it work fine on Stella X. Thank you very much. I try now Bearenstein Bears too, maybe this work too. No work not by the other game, maybe there is an other code to get it to work? And are there other codes to play the other games by Smurfs Save the Day? [ 02-14-2002: Message edited by: MattyXB ]
Scott Stilphen
That's new to me! The manual doesn't mention that (even says the TV type switch isn't used...). It does say there are 2 different modes for each game, "game" and "toy". "Game mode" is for playing with the Vid Kid, and "Toy mode" is for playing w/o it- which doesn't make sense if you have to have the Vid Kid hooked up anyway! Perhaps there's other combinations that unlock the other 2 games?

Liars! quotePerhaps there's other combinations that unlock the other 2 games?[/QB] No, the "unlock" combination is fixed. Selecting the other games is perhaps only possible when emulating the keypad controller. But there, I don't know what keys to press instead of cursor up and down. BTW: There is not cheat like that in Berenstain Bears, sorry. [ 02-14-2002: Message edited by: Thomas Jentzsch ]
popeal
Wasn't there some audio cassettes that came with the game? I can remember seeing this a long time ago... wasn't there three different audio cassettes that you can have for this game? Al
ubersaurus
Maybe people should make copies of those audio tapes. there could be some way to adapt them for emulator use, but only if they don't deteriate first.
Tempest
I've got both Smurfs STD and Bearenstien Bears, the Kid Vid, and all the tapes, the only thing I'm missing is the damn cord for the kid vid! Anyone got a spare? Tempest

Tempest
I was wondering how long it would be before someone picked up on that. Talk about a case of blue balls... Tempest
liquid_sky
ouch. beat me to it. I guess smurfs STD must be a kinda bad thing as you get it from a Kid Vid.
jahfish
i think there was an explanation online somewhere, that shows how to make the cable yourself. but i guess that's not what tempest is looking for original style, babe!
MattyXB
@ Tempest, yes, there was a site, but this is now down. Don't know if this will work again later. For some days it has work great. Kid Vid and Cable I have upload the pictures on my site, because this site work in the moment not. The pictures are not from me, I have download them in the past from this site. I have only upload them on an other site. REAL KID VID CABLE SELFMADE KID VID CABLE PLUG IN from the KID VID and the schematic: I hope that will help you Tempest. @ Thomas Jentzsch, I think the Keypad Controller is emulated. I think by the Stella X it will work with the Number keys on the right.

Yes, you can make the other two games work too. Use the difficulty switches (again, the manual says there are not used ) before you enter the unlocking sequence. Greedy Smurf: both switches on Amateur (B) Harmony Smurf: left switch on Pro (A) Handy Smurf: right switch on Pro (A) BTW: Both switches on Pro (A) allows resetting the game. MattyXB
Thank you very much. Work great. But why do you need the cassettes and the KID VID, when you can play without them? Or is then someting diffrent abou the gameplay? [ 02-15-2002: Message edited by: MattyXB ]

One works with and the other without the Vid Kid. Switching between the modes is done with SELECT.
Tempest
I believe the tapes give you instructions on what to do. They probably also had some annoying songs and stuff on them. Is there a way to get this trick to work on a 7800? I thought the pause button was somehow hooked into the B&W switch. Tempest
Thomas Jentzsch
BTW: Can somebody please explain, how to play Berenstain Bears? There is a scenario where a bear(?) on a unicycle has to catch some numbers falling form tress. But I don't now what else you have to do there. Is the manual somewhere available? Thomas Jentzsch
Forget the last question, I found a very good page.
MattyXB
@ Thomas Jentzsch The Kid Vid Site work again, there you found everything about the Games Player and Manuals. The Manual from the Berenstain Bears too. Atari 2600 Kid Vid Page Can you play it with Emulator? Or do you have the game Thomas?
