e5frog
Good luck finding a Democart 2, I only know of One in existence, I'd say it's at least ten times more rare than the Democart...

I have only found one confirmed existence of this cart myself, but if there is one there must be more. BTW is the one you know of in the USA ? Ian posted a picture of both of the Channel F Democarts on his homepage: www.ianoid.com Click on Site Features, then Channel F Oddities I agree that Democart 2 is much harder to find, but I have seen it on ebay before. I would love to add one to my collection someday, but I am not willing to pay nearly as much as FND is offering for it. Matt A.

Yes, Ian Baronofsky is the only one I know that has one, that's the cart that was dumped with Sean Riddle's automatic cart dumper. Sean actually sent it to Ian so that he could take care of business himself. I'm still not convinced that Democart 2 is the real thing, it might be a homebrew. I made similar labels for a Fairchild multi-cart, laserprinted with plastic film on top. All the names of the games printed on the label don't match with the real cart names... It might ofcourse be a prototype. It would be interesting to see the insides. As this was probably among the last things released by Fairchild there might have been many lost. It's strange however one never gets a Zircon re-labeled cart with Democart 2 labels beneath the ones on top, occasionally I have seen Zircon-re-labeled carts with either Fairchild #1 instruction labels or Democart labels. Zircon simply reused the cart shells of non-sold carts. I hope I'll come across a boxed Democart again, the one I had looked even better than Ian's. I can "play" them both anyway - I have a multi-cart...

I have a boxed Democart 1 that looks to be in better condition I'll post a scan when I get a chance I have also found a Democart 1 label under a Zircon #23 cart and have two non working Democarts as well So I have to agree the Democart 2 is a much harder item to locate and would most likely sell for more then I have offered BTW I have some old Zircon sales pamphlets that refer to the Democart as cart #51 but no mention of a Democart 2 And Yes Ian's Democart 2 is the only one I know of also. FND
Here is a scan of the Zircon Christmas Closeout Sale. An interesting Note is the Democart is listed as Demo 1 which would suggest there may be a number 2 also it was given number 51 While I am at it here are some scans of a sale insert offering a few of the late release carts Here is my Demo Box Last a few Brochures Notice how in the second brochure when cart #19 Checkers is listed # 25 Casino Royale is specifically noted as “NOT AVAILABLE” and # 26 is not even mentioned Then in the third brochure #22, 23, 24, 25 and 26 are listed as NEW but there is not a #19 Looks like #19 was not released until late and at the same Time as #22, 23 and 24 (See the Zircon Holiday “New Never Before Offered Games” release letter above) and then discontinued shortly after and just before #25 and 26 became available. #19 was only available for a shorter time when #22, 23 and 24 were available but Then gone again when #25 and 26 were released. e5frog
Here are some scans of the Democart I had: front of Democart box back of Democart box Nice broschures, I haven't seen those before. I guess that's where the "Casino Royale"-name comes from, haven't seen that before in print either. But there wasn't any carts with this I name I guess, only "Casino Poker"? I have only seen #19 carts with the poor rubber chip cover, that might be the reason there's so few of these. The rubber covered chips usually contain cart #22 rom also and can be switched between these if you change a jumper on the circuit-board (and vice versa). If anyone is looking for a boxed Fairchild Channel F Democart, let me know. I have a very nice spare. Maybe we can work a trade? I am looking vor a few boxes for intv, vectrex and 5200. Also looking for a few lynx games. Edited October 11, 2006 by mr.bill

That would be nice, but I only have Fairchild stuff, C64, VIC20 and Amiga to trade with... ... oh and some Gameboy, NES, SNES and for Vectrex (besides the unit) only Sean Kelly's Multicart and a loose copy of Clean Sweep. Mezrabad
Wow, that envelope is postmarked 29 October 1980 and the text of the letter says that it's the first time new games were available [for the Channel F] in over a year . . . and just in time for Christmas. I'm guessing that it is a safer bet to think of the "new" games as having come out in 1980, instead of in 1979 as I'd been planning to chronogame them. Good to know, now I can skip the remaining Channel Fs (even though I had so wanted to finish them in the 1970s) and move on. Hey, just a thought about Casino Royale. Wasn't that the name of the first James Bond book by Ian Fleming? Could Casino Royale's availability, then distinct un-availability and the eventual name change to Casino Poker have anything to do with possible licensing issues? If this were 1980, then licensing precedence would have started with Space Invaders on the VCS and of course all the sports titles on the Intellivision. I'm just wildly speculating here, but perhaps "Casino Royale" got changed because of such issues. Either that or they (perhaps the same minds that said America couldn't handle Schaff) decided that "Casino Royale" sounded too "frenchy" or something. Thanks for posting all the great scans FND, e5frog and mr. bill! I really wish there were more pictures of rare stuff out there. (for instance, would it kill the owner of RCA Studio II Bingo to post a few pics? Jeez. LOL ) Edited October 11, 2006 by Mezrabad
e5frog
There is another Democart 2... I got these scans of the inside guts, a 3853 SMI and a 8316A (2kB Programmable ROM). One time programmable i presume. The Democart 2 is probably some sort of a prototype PCB was made 11/77, which is probably week 11 of 1977. But as the hatch is marked 09-78 it was probably not assembled until week 9, 1978. This one was apparently bought in Sweden at a Swedish auction site in early 2005 bunched with some Luxor carts, worst thing isn't that it was cheap - it's that I missed it! FND
Looks like our chances of getting one just increased 100% Thanks for the scans and info. The fact they went to the trouble to put them into cases with labels gives me the impression there are at least a few more.
e5frog
The owner suggested the Democart 2 was meant for another audience than the Democart (produced for retailers), perhaps when selling the system to ITT (Ingelen), SABA, Barco, Dumont, Grandstand and Luxor? e5frog
Just thought of this as I read through this again - it wouldn't be possible to use the cart without the case as this is used to keep the cart in the unit... I still want both of these Democarts.... Edited February 28, 2007 by e5frog
