Edladdin Controllers

Take classic Atari 2600, Atari 7800, and 8-bit computer games to a whole new level with the Super 78 - an arcade controller built around an authentic Sanwa™ JLF-TP-8YT ball-top joystick with an octagonal restrictor plate and two pairs of Suzo-Happ pushbuttons.

Super 78 transforms gameplay on great Atari 7800 games like Asteroids, Ballblazer, Centipede, Choplifter, Commando, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, Food Fight, Galaga, Joust, and more. The octagonal restrictor plate is the perfect compromise between a 4-way and 8-way joystick, providing distinct landing points for your stick in all eight directions. The Suzo-Happ arcade pushbuttons deliver true left/right two-button control just like the original Atari 7800 "Pro Line" controllers, but with none of the pain.

Super 78 Suported Systems

Super 78 brings new playability and excitement to classic Atari 2600 and 8-Bit computer games. The Super 78 is 100% compatible with the classic Atari CX-40 joystick familiar to owners of the Atari 2600, Atari Flashback, and many of the 8-bit era computers. When used with one of these systems, both buttons perform just like the single red fire button on the Atari 2600 joystick. But because our old-school concave arcade fire buttons are driven by super sensitive micro-switches, you can cancel your membership in the Numb Thumb Club!

Easy to Play. Super 78s are built in an 8" x 14" sloped aluminum housing that is stable on the table or happy in your lap, with the joystick and classic arcade fire buttons positioned for a natural wrist position. The ambidextrous button layout allows you to switch to the most comfortable control scheme that each game requires. Under the hood, all harness connections are soldered and heat-shrink wrapped. The result is a controller to last a lifetime. The molded DB-9 cord length is approximately 5'6" (1.6m).

Your wish is our command! Customize your Super 78 with rainbow of colors for your joystick ball and pushbuttons, including the amazing Hard Candy Gemstone balls in red, blue, purple, yellow, green, and "smoke". Refer to the images below to see the available joystick ball and pushbutton colors and then select your options at the top of the page.

Getting older can be fun, but not always. After just a couple of hours using a standard CX40 can be *very* problematic, and even caused some temporary nerve damage after an 8 hour mini-marathon a couple of years ago. I wasn't about to stop marathoning, so I looked into 6 different modern Atari 2600 controller alternatives . and then bought all 6 and tried them all out. The EdLaddin Super 78 was far superior in every aspect than all of the others: extraordinarily durable, light, portable, functionality, versatility, premium components and materials, and most importantly for someone like me, ergonomics. I'd otherwise sell the other 5 non-EdLaddin controllers because I'll never use them again, but it's unlikely I would find a buyer, because I wouldn't be able to help myself and I would convince the buyer to get an EdLaddin controller instead. I have since acquired EdLaddin's Twin 78, it has all the same fantastic features of the Super 78, but two can use it simultaneously.

I had been interested in this controller for a
long time and am thrilled with my decision to get one. Being able to customize my controller is the icing on the cake. I love the arcades and now I have the real feel in my own home. Truly a masterpiece!

I commend Atariage for partnering with Edladdin. I have both Super 78 and super CV. These are are great for gaming parties and these should last many years. The super 78 above is ambidextrous.

I got my Super 78 Arcade controller today. It is great! I tried it out on my Atari 7800 and it worked smoothly and felt great sitting in my lap. It is light weight and the controls react smoothly. I no longer have to take one hand to hold the joystick base while moving the stick on the old style joysticks. I love it.

I can't wait to use it on my Atari Computers. It already makes me feel like I am back in the old arcades playing games like Donkey Kong, Asteroids, Ms Pac Man and many others.

To me this was a great investment and was a much better choice than buying an old style joystick that for me were harder to handle. (The old joysticks sometimes would slip a little in my hands). Also some of the old style joysticks did not last long or were not very reactive, The Super 78 is well made and looks great and I feel it will last me a long time. it already has made me enjoy the games so much more

Bottom line to me this is a great controller.

I ordered one of these custom. It plays true to arcade. The buttons, stick, and microswitches all even feel right. I broke my own records in many 2600 and 7800 games after ordering this. Plus, Ed lets you customize the appearance of the controller too. He obviously does this because he likes it, because he could charge more than he does for the quality of his work.

Absolutely perfect build and quality arcade-like gameplay! Brings new life to my library of classic 2600/7800 games. Only issue is that I now need one to come out for my Vectrex!
