Blue Lightning was a pack in game with the Atari Jaguar CD and is somewhat polarizing. It seems to be a "love it or hate it" type game. I for one enjoy it, and if you like Top Gun on the NES or Afterburner on the Genesis/32x I think you will too. You have several planes to choose from, some suited better to various mission types. The action is fast paced, more near the ground than in the sky. The animated cut scenes are fun, and the music rocks. It's a fun arcade romp and you will be shooting and blasting enemies like tanks, planes, artillery placements, and even ships! You will progress through a map screen and it becomes quite challenging in the later levels.
Could/should Atari have done better for a launch title in 1995 going head to head with the Saturn and PS1? Probably. But if you appreciate this game on it's own merits I think it stands up pretty well for what it's trying to do. Well worth the price of admission and a must-own if you have a Jag CD.
