I didn't pay that much attention to it when it first came out, in fact I completed it so fast that I took it back to the shop within two days. However, having picked it up again for £8, I've tried it on Live- and it's actually really good once you get into it! As long as you're not connected to a laggy host, it's well worth a try. I think it's got the highest number of players in one game (apart from Black Hawk Down) on Live as well, up to 32 per room.

That's my point exactly. I think they're doing fine with what they already have. If you have a new strong product (and a phenomanal old product) why not just focus on that? Well, they are, aren't they? I haven't seen any announcment of a new Game Boy. They've announced a new version of the GBA hardware, but everything I see from Nintendo (not Nintendo fanboys) that is Game Boy related has still been about the GBA. 870292[/snapback] Like Rhindle, the only new Gameboy I've heard about is the Gameboy Micro, which is just another GBA with a different design. I think Nintendo have big plans for the DS, and I can't see it being superceded for quite some time yet....

I really don't think there's room for any more companies like Sega, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. Christ- Microsoft lost money on every single Xbox that was sold AND they're going to be losing $75 on every Xbox 360 sold at the RRP of $300- and as that price gets dropped, they're going to lose even more!! I don't think there are many, if any companies that can actually afford those kinds of losses as part of a long term plan.... I'm one of the people who think that there should just be one universal console anyway- it would work out best for everyone!! Gamers wouldn't have to buy three different consoles to play all their favourite games (I've missed out on quite a few PS2 and Gamecube titles that I've been really keen in playing, just because I can't afford three consoles, three sets of memory cards, pads etc...) We wouldn't have all this pointless debate over which is the best console (at the end of the day, everyone has their opinion- but why do we always need to hear everyone's reasons for hating PS2/Xbox/Gamecube, it's normally just because they don't have the console anyway!!! That's what I like here, everyone wants to talk about their passion for gaming, not their hatred of it!) And obviously, there would be no need to mess around porting versions to multiple consoles, which would save the companies making the games a lot of time and money- thus giving them time to make less buggy games and *SHOCK, HORROR* maybe even think about trying something new. Xbox gamers wouldn't miss out on innovations like the EyeToy or Gamcube/GBA connectivity, PS2 and Gamecube owners wouldn't miss out on a quality online service, Xbox and PS2 owners wouldn't miss out on the quite frankly inimitable genius that is Nintendo's first party catalogue (and Resident Evil 4) etc etc etc..... You get the picture!!

I presume there is a good reason for us never changing to NTSC, but I couldn't tell you what that is!! At the end of the day, most televisions built in the last ten years or so are NTSC compatible, so there's certainly nothing stopping any UK collector from using an NTSC system. As for HDTV, I saw it when I was at the Epcot center and boy- that was impressive. The picture was unbeliebably detailed, extremely high resolution and quite frankly, I was blown away.... Most Brits think that digital TV (which has replaced cable here) is impressive, but HDTV was something else. Microsoft are pushing the HDTV functionality of the XBox 360 here, so it must be on it's way. I think the HDTV's themselves are available to buy already, but nobody broadcasts it yet! It's the way forward, I tell thee. P.S- as for the speed difference, it's most noticable in Capcom games- the first Resident Evil had HUUUUGE borders!!

It displays large enough so that you can see what you're doing. It has a co-op mode on both games, supporting up to four players at once, as well as your customary deathmatch modes. As far as I'm aware, they are both pretty much the same as the ones on PS1- I'm certain Final Doom is there. But no, you cannot play them on PC. 868531[/snapback] Er. And I think it runs full screen ok... 4 player is kind of fun, but I guess the levels are the ordinary story levels, they didn't seem to include any deathmatch specialty WADs...and some of those levels are just not very good deathmatch levels. I haven't actually played it four player, classic games as they are, most people I know would rather play some four player Mario Kart: Double Dash or Top Spin Tennis. I enjoyed playing the original back in the day and for a long time after, but to be honest I feel too restricted without being able to look up or down these days... If you were going to have fun with multiplayer Doom, you'd be better off finding some online servers for the PC version, I'm sure there are versions with more than 4 player, with lots more maps and match types.

The hotel I stayed at in LA recently had a dodgy unofficial Snes pad coming out the side of the TV. I decided to investigate one evening and discovered that I could play about 30 different SNES games!! The downside? It cost six bucks an hour. But I'm willing to bet Nintendo makes some money out of this kind of thing as well. I say good on Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft would never do anything like that without charging sky high prices.

What you say about Killzone is right. Much as I enjoy Xbox, the PS3 has been consistently more impressive, on the graphics front at least. And if you think Sony hasn't noticed the success of Xbox Live, think again- they've already got video chat on PS2, and I think that when a proper announcement about the PS3 is made (what's been announced so far has been purely for the purpose of stealing the 360's thunder, and it's worked), I think that online play will figure heavily. As always with these things, time will tell...

Most people that saw Perfect Dark Zero at E3 said that it suffered terrible slowdown, had bland levels, scenery and characters- and the next thing I heard was that it has been canned.... although the game is still up on Rare's website. I've only just picked up the first one for N64 a couple of weeks ago, having missed it first time around- and I have to say, it's a damn good game!!! Laptop guns are the coolest....

Second-hand store, basically. Many are, in effect, charity shops while some (like the Value Village/Savers chain) are effectively commercial second-hand stores which take donations of stuff and sell them for profit (giving a percentage to a chosen charity - in VV Thunder Bay's case the Canadian Diabetes Association). 864483[/snapback] Thankyou! We have stores like that here in the UK, but they're called charity shops- as everything is donated by the public, with proceeds going to various charities!! While not found in a shop, (I found this one at a car boot sale, don't know if the US has those- everyone chucks all their stuff in the back of a car, drives to a big field and sells it out of the car) I know it's not particularly retro, but I found Blinx The Timesweeper for Xbox for 50p (about 90 cents), in brand new condition! I just said 'how much?' and that was her price!! I know they're pretty cheap now anyway but I did pick up an N64 and Dreamcast about two years ago for £10/approx $19- car boot sales are a haven for bargains, you just need to get there for 7am to catch all the good stuff before it goes!

Sorry, dumbass Brit question here- but could someone define 'thrift' for me? I keep seeing it all over this website and curiosity has taken over!!!
