TheActivisionary
Just looked at my shelf and discovered that shockingly I own Pooyan. It’s been gathering dust for a few years, don’t think I’ve ever played it. Glad I can finally put it to use! 3
CapitanClassic
I like Pooyan, but only on the a800. Don’t remember liking the NES port or the arcade (on MAME). This week is going to be interesting.
CapitanClassic
Controls different than the a800 version Quote To take the bait that appears at the top-right hand side of the valley, first move the Mother Pig up to the level of the bait, release the lever and then push it upwards once more. When she has got the bait, the Mother Pig turns red. https://atariage.com/manual_html_page.php?SoftwareLabelID=372 Edited February 20, 2021 by CapitanClassic

fakecortex
Starting score for Strategy X before I read the manual. The game reminds me of River Raid, but on the ground and with a tank... hey, it has fuel tanks at least. Strategy X - 1,260

Rogerpoco
Haven't tried Strategy-X yet, but I tried the other one last night. If "Yan" translates to "Poo" in English, the name suddenly makes a lot of sense. 3

Lauren Tyler
Let it be known that I'm just warming up... Pooyan: 1,085 Strategy X: 1,280 4,440 Edited February 20, 2021 by Lauren Tyler Better score on Strategy X.
kermit73
Something that makes these games different from most games I've played is the behavior of the joystick. For a game like Strategy X, I'd expect to be able to move diagonally, or at least speed up/slow down while moving left/right when pointing the joystick in a diagonal direction. It's particularly annoying that your enemies on the odd-numbered boards can shoot at you in a diagonal direction, but you can only hit them with your tank pointed up, left, or right. With Pooyan, the game feels unresponsive if you repeatedly push up or down on the joystick in an effort to move quickly. There is a built-in delay between each individual movement, so you're going to pause briefly no matter how fast you move the joystick. The fastest way to move in either direction and avoid "mistakes" is to just hold the "lever" in the desired direction.
